Description

This is the humongous database of all scientific trials, collected by the National Institutes of Healths’ National Library of Medicine. This is my first stop on finding any medical study for a story. Fortunately, more and more full studies (vs. just the abstract) are coming available for free, which is a great boon to health writers like me.

It comes on at 6:30 pm on our local NPR station. I feel more connected to the rest of the world after listening to it, and it reminds me of my time in London.

I confess that I never read the “Money & Investing” section, but PJ and “Marketplace” help me keep up. Tara Parker-Pope’s health reporting, among that of other WSJ reporters, has more energy and relevance than a lot of what the New York Times seems to be doing, health-wise. Sadly, so much about health these days is related to money (drugs, health care), so maybe that’s why they seem more current.

These fizzy sweet drinks do remind me of Italy, come in a prettily-shaped bottle in pretty colors, and are the perfect pick-me-up during those mid-afternoon lulls when I can’t write one more word and a nap beckons.
