Stanley Jordan's "State of Nature"- GRAMMY NOMINATED for Best Pop Instrumental Performance
First to recommend
Description
This CD is my GRAMMY pick for BEST POP INSTRUMENTAL PERFORMANCE and you know I won't steer you wrong! Anyone fans of Pat Matheny , Jimi Hendrix, Brian Culbertson, Herbie Hancock, Earl Klugh, Esperanza, Diane Reeves, David Benoit, Marcus Miller, Grateful Dead - or anyone who practices yoga or meditation, or listens to jazz, guitars, progressive jazz, ambient or new age music and/or are fans of- they will love this CD!
Have you ever seen him live? He is AMAZING - he hasn't really had a major release in like 15 years so I was really excited to pick up a copy of "State of Nature". It's truly brilliant (as is he) - you know he plays like 4 parts at the same time? His technique is called "tapping". You can find a bunch more about it on the web. Well anyway, this new album "State of Nature" is all about the ambient sounds of nature and only Jordan can truly capture the sound of "a breeze" and then turn it in into something amazing like the "Ocean Breeze" cut on this album. He definitely gets better and better growing within his music. Here's a link to a video interview - very interesting to see the "tapping" technique in action as he plays 2 guitars at the same time!

Its by Lisbeth Scott & Greg Ellis - they have both contributed on so many soundtracks like Chronicles, Ironman,. Passion of the Christ, Lord of the Rings, 300 Gladiators and so many more. It has a really unique feeling to it...very calming and passionate with a wicked beat!! (via kosmicmusic.com)

After seven years the Toadies are back together and it's like they'd never been apart, they're making rock, it's a bit different, it's a bit better, it's back to the roots rock and roll. Great guitar playing, great lyrics, great shouting, singing, rocking. This is down and dirty rock and roll and you know it right from the fast-paced opener "So Long Lovey Eyes" all the way through to the closer, "I Want Your Love", with it's amazing drum intro.

Rissi Palmer - "Rissi Palmer"

Description
This is the perfect gift if you are looking for a present for mostly females 16-45. Anyone who likes Country Music, R&B, Pop, Contemporary Country and/or are fans of Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill, Trish Yearwood, Colbie Caillat, Norah, Dixie Chicks, Natasha Beddingfied, Carrie Underwood, India Arie, Mariah Carey or Sheryl Crow will love this CD!
I am a new HUGE fan of this artist named RISSI PALMER. She has an amazing album out that features this single called “Country Girl” that’s already been on the Billboard charts. If you're already familiar with Rissi Palmer (www.rissipalmer.com) then you know that she's the first African-American Female Country artist to chart three singles on the Billboard charts ("Country Girl", "Hold On To Me", and "No Air") as well as charting her “No Air” video on cmt.com - check it out here http://www.cmt.com/videos/rissi-palmer/259570/no-air.jhtml .
She was an avid singer as a child singing in the gospel choir at her church……she drew her inspiration from the Patsy Cline records that her mother, (who she lost at the tender age of 7), listened to day in and day out. Then, after seeing Charley Pride perform at the Grand Ole' Opry, she was convinced that she could very well accomplish anything, including becoming the first Female African-American Country star that she is fast becoming. She has now performed at the Opry 8 times, and most recently with her idol, Charley Pride.

We The Kings-We the Kings (Deluxe Ed.)

Description
"This band is so HOT. Couldn't believe my mom got this for me! Was wondering how she knew I'd like this - she said she found it here Thanks!" - from ddmc2
This is the perfect gift if you are looking for a present for 12-24 yr. old boys/girls/teens/20 somethings. Anyone who likes Alternative Rock, Hardcore & Punk, Emo, Lo-Fi, Pop, PowerPop, Indie music or is a fan of The Academy Is, Boys Like Girls, Metro Station, All Time Low, Mayday Parade, The Maine, Cobra Station or Secondhand Serenade, will love this CD!
We the Kings are an unapologetically commercial pop-punk band from Bradenton, FL, a small town on the west coast of the state notable primarily for being the home of Tropicana orange juice. Friends since childhood (the band name refers to the name of their junior high mascot), the foursome — singer and guitarist Travis Clark, guitarist Hunter Thomsen, his bassist brother Drew Thomsen, and drummer Danny Duncan — formed the band while still attending high school. In 2007, under the guidance of manager Bret Disend, the still-teenage quartet placed a number of tracks on the social-networking site Purevolume to build their online buzz as an unsigned band while pursuing a deal with EMI's revived faux-indie imprint S-Curve Records (Joss Stone, Fountains of Wayne, the Baha Men). Their self-titled debut album was produced by Sam Hollander and mixed by Lou Giordano, who had each done the same for then-current chart favorites Gym Class Heroes and the Plain White T's, respectively. Pere Ubu - 'Why I Remix Women'
First to recommend
Description
"My punk friend is gonna flip over this! Thanks!" From a unnamed fan of my recommendation list!
This is the perfect gift if you are looking for a present for primarily males 16 - 45. Anyone who likes Punk, Hardcore Punk, Spoken Word or Experimemental music will get quite a kick outta David Thomas' Pere Ubu. Any fans of the Unknown Instructors, Rocket from the Tombs, The Ubu Projex, 2 Pale Boys, the Pettibones, Keith Moline, Michele Temple, David Thomas will LOVE this record! It is a limited edition only available through this link (or the band personally).
WHY I REMIX WOMEN is a collection of remixes of material from WHY I HATE WOMEN by Pere Ubu (NOTE: Its not about hating women! Just the opposite about how much he LOVES women!) The remixers are Keith Moliné, Michele Temple and Dids (Pere Ubu's soundman). Also included is an alternative album mix from David Thomas.
Keith comments on his remixes:
Moon, I'm Comin' Home is a re-configuration of elements from 2 Girls, Caroleen, My Boyfriend's Back and Synth Farm. The result is 12-tone Systems Prog, a curiously under-explored genre. Created through the magic of hard-disk editing on an ailing Mac. Dust and Dogs is a demo sketch for an abandoned song with a rearranged vocal from Synth Farm added. Texan Farewell features painstakingly hand-glitched vocal soundfiles and massive overuse of a mystery plug-in applied to sections of Texas Overture. Light It Up is the bass from Mona, synth from Love Song, drums and guitar from Texas Overture, voice from Caroleen. The mystery plug-in used liberally throughout. Lots of chopping, folding and editing. A tribute to Thriller! from Dub Housing.

"Thanks for how you breakdown your list, I slipped into a conversation, "do you like these bands (the ones listed) and hit the nail on the head so I'm confident this CD will be a perfect gift" - from gooday
This is the perfect gift if you are looking for a present for (mostly) male, 16 - 28. Anyone who likes metal, christian metal, christian alternative, christian rock, alternative metal, metalcore, punk, hard rock and/or who is a fan of Norma Jean, Underoath, Demon Hunter, Becoming the Archetye or The Showdown, Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, Pressure the Hinges, will love this CD!
Review: "This band is a must-have if you like metalcore"
I only recently got into Haste the Day, with the cds "Burning Bridges" and "When everything Falls", which I know are old but i just bought them and fell in love. I was kinda excited when this new cd came out, but almost hesitant to hear how they progressed. I know most bands take a turn for the worse around this point in their developement, but not HTD. This cd is, for lack of a better word, amazing. HTD has grown past the throaty growls and short choruses with cool riffs, into a full caliber metal band. This cd has it all, blood pumping coherant screams, catchy choruses, and mind blowing riffs that go on for days. This is a great cd for old fans and to make some new ones. Very impressive and a must buy!"

Randy's 50th Anniversary - Various Artists

Description
Now $4 off at Culture Clash (link at bottom or pick CC on the Buy It link!) This is the perfect gift if you are looking for an amazing present for primarily males or 18 and up who are like reggae music from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's & 90's - this CD has over 51 tracks by virtually every reggae artist on the planet! Lord Creator, Alton & Eddie, Joy & Paulette, Rico Rodriquez, Norma Fraser, Basil Gabbidon, Cornell Campbell, Charlie Organaire, Joanne Gordon, Roland Alphonso, Baba Brooks, Skatalites, Alton Ellis, John Holt, Toots & the Maytals, Delroy Byfield, Don Drummond, Stranger & Ken, Bob Marley & the Wailers, Peter Tosh, Gaylads, Count Machukie, Impact All-Stars, Ethiopians, Agustus Pablo, J-Roy, Junior Byles, Horace Andy, Jimmy London, Donovan Carless, John Holt, Hortense Ellis, Senya, Gregory Isaacs, Black Uhuru, Lloyd Parks, African Brothers, Keith Poppin, Errol Dunkley, Gladiators, Heptones, Hubert Lee, Charley Ace, Dirty Harry , Carl Malcolm, Big Youth, - they will love this CD!
The '17 North Parade' offshoot of the VP record label has been issuing excellent reggae revive albums and compilations for a few years now but this might be their masterpiece which is appropriate as VP records evolved from the Jamaican based Randy's record label which is the subject of this compilation. The package includes two full hour plus music CDs and a "bonus" DVD telling the story of Randy's. Whilst the DVD is a pretty basic affair the story it tells is fascinating for reggae buffs like myself and the wealth of talent involved is amazing for the cognoscenti including many luminaries from the golden age of reggae. The music CDs are just fantastic, CD1 showing the evolution of the music on Randy's through the 1960s from raw R&B inspired ska through rocksteady to early reggae with an extraordinary range of talent including the Maytals, Alton Ellis, Lord Creator, John Holt and even the Wailers. CD2 though is the real deal (and ultimately why I purchased this item) showing what Randy's were up to in their early 70's purple patch with a quite brilliant selection of instrumentals (inc. Pablo's immortal 'Java'), lovers (eg. Alton Ellis' 'Too Late' and Dennis Brown's 'Cheater') and Roots (eg. Senya's 'Children of the Ghetto), all of it good and most of it great. I must also note that the sound quality is straight from the top drawer with the music sounding like it was remastered from the original master tapes, a rarity in reggae reissues believe me. My only wish is that there is enough in the vaults for a second volume, hopefully including 'Rolling Stone' by the Psalms, 'Won't Come Easy' by Sweeny and the Wailers and 'Evil That You Do' by Roots and the Wailers. Rahsaan Patterson - The Ultimate Gift
First to recommend
Description
"This is a winner! I'm sure my grandson will flip over this!" from gooday
This is the perfect gift if you are looking for a present for anyone over age 20 that likes R&B music, Soul, Neo-Soul, Christmas music, Ledisi, Raphael Saadiq, Eric Benet, Wayne Brady, Jennifer Hudson, Robin Thicke, John Legend or Brian McKnight.
As Christmas recordings go, The Ultimate Gift by Rahsaan Patterson is its own special animal, coming off more as a solid offering of new tracks with holiday themes than a holiday record by a great neo-soul singer. This date kicks it with solid, bright production, wonderful tunes, and Patterson in very inspired voice. Seven of these 11 cuts are originals co-written with Jamey Jaz (one of three co-producers with Patterson), though the wildly percussive and deeply funky "Christmas at My House" -- one of the best moments on this joint -- was co-written by no less than Van Hunt. There is only one traditional Christmas song on the set, which is -- thankfully -- an inoffensive and wildly innovative arrangement of "Little Drummer Boy," complete with serious breaks and slinky keys and guitars in the latter half. In addition, there is a reading of Paul McCartney's "Wonderful Christmastime" with a kickin' sax break by Derrick Edmonson. The version of the Motown classic "What Christmas Means to Me" is fantastic. (via Barnes & Noble)
