Custom Hidden Passageways

3 people recommended this item
Description
Growing up with books like The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, I became obsessed with the lure of secret passageways in houses.
Now there is a company that actually designs such things- bookcases with a secret "book" that acts as a lever, fireplaces with candleabras that, when pulled, reveal a hidden room behind them. Oh my GOD do I find that sexy.
The Creative Engineering team will work with you to custom design just about any configuration of hidden passageways for your home you can think of. Alternately, they have some preconfigured options like dressers with swing out hidden passageways.
Options like fingerprint scanners and other super-cool fantasy faire are all on the menu.

Textile Softblocks By Forsythe And Macallen For Molo
First to recommend
Description
from PlushPod's description:
Designer: Stephanie Forsythe & Todd MacAllen for Molo
The softblocks modern room divider are beautiful, lightweight, freestanding blocks that can expand and be arranged into almost any shape or easily compressed and stored away. A revolutionary design concept that will captivate your imagination!
Description:
Textile softblocks are a modular system of building blocks with embedded magnetic connectors that can be used alone, or stacked and joined together. Like giant stretchy Lego blocks, each textile softblock can be expanded up to 20 feet long and freely shaped and stacked to create richly textured walls up to 10 feet in height. Functional horizontal surfaces can also be formed within a wall or as a long winding counter/bar. Textile softblocks have an abstract sculptural quality and can be readily used to create an entire environment with qualities of soft ambient light and delicate acoustics, or simply used to form a long winding partition, table, or bar.
When backlit with natural or electric light, the translucent white textile softblocks really come to life, as patterns of light and shadow shift with the changing textures created by the pleated surface of the blocks. The honeycomb structure of the blocks is dense enough to support a useful amount of weight. As such, softblocks can be used to display objects, or to create functional surfaces, such as for a bar or buffet, simply by placing a tray or shelf across the honeycomb cells. Textile softblocks are easy to manipulate, able to withstand rough handling, and are water and tear resistant. Softblocks can be dusted, vacuumed, and wiped clean with a damp cloth.
Due to the brilliant design it has already won many design awards after debuting in 2005 and is now part of MoMA's permanent collection!

Devine Sex Toy Storage Boxes

Description
For those of you who have read my other recs (none of which are in the sex toy genre, I might add), you are familiar with the slew of complexes that inject themselves into my posts- almost all of them exclusively having to do with being Irish and Catholic. We're not going to get into the third part of the Trifecta- my mother's role in playing mental origami with my psyche. At least not right now. Given the subject "at hand" (DAMN my naughty puns! There must be a chapter SOMEWHERE in a clinical textbook about the need to make them....right now I just hear the Cha-Ching of my therapy bill going up...).
ANYWAY, those of you who DO know what a whackjob I can be will thus have a fairly accurate idea of exactly how much red wine it took for me to post this particular little ditty. Yes, there are a few grapes left on the vine. But I did some damage, I assure you.
Ok, here's "the thing" THIS time because you've probably figured out there is always a "thing" with me:
Honest to god (I'd swear on my father's grave but a bit inappropriate given the obvious), I am so off-the-turnip truck at times I didn't even KNOW I had a vibrator until I saw the infamous Sex and the City Sharper Image episode. The one WITH MY HITACHI NECK MASSAGER. That I used FOR MY NECK. And yes, it was a magic wand alright. It was just casting entirely different, Irish Catholic spells. On my neck. Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the whole frat house of saints as my witnesses, I did not know.
We won't even get into the recovery THAT shock required. And the wine.
Anyway, once I discovered that what I had been tossing around like it was as innocent as a potato peeler was actually a vibrating love sword, modifications to its transport when travelling to Ireland had to be made, what with customs and all.
That is where these lovely cases come in.
And finally, we have arrived at the point. I'll drink to that.

The Technology of Orgasm: "Hysteria," the Vibrator, and Women's Sexual Satisfaction
First to recommend
Description
Based on a Johns Hopkins study... leave this book on your coffee table and you are bound to encounter stimulating conversations....
An excerpt from Amazon:
"For centuries, women diagnosed with "hysteria"--a "disease paradigm," in Rachel P. Maines's felicitous phrase, thought to result from a lack of sexual intercourse or gratification--were treated by massaging their genitals in order to induce "paroxysm." Male physicians, however, considered the practice drudgery, and sought various ways of avoiding the task, often foisting it off on midwives or, starting in the late 19th century, employing mechanical devices...."
FROM PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
It will surprise most readers to learn that the vibrator was invented in the late 1880s as a time-saving device for physicians, who had been treating women's "hysteria" for years with clitoral massage. Denying the sexual nature of the treatments, doctors instead saw the technique as a burdensome chore and welcomed electric devices that would shorten patients' visits. Maines, an independent scholar in the history of technology, presents a straightforward account of the mechanism from its beginning through the 1920s, when it came into disrepute as a medical instrument. Going far beyond a mere summary of therapeutic advances, however, she wryly chronicles the attitude toward women's sexuality in the medical and psychological professions and shows, with searing insight, how some ancient biases are still prevalent in our society. Maines's writing is lively and entertaining, and her research is exhaustive, drawing on texts from Hippocrates to the present day. Proving her point about how women's sexuality is still perceived as an unapproachable subject in some quarters, Maines describes her travails in vibrator historiography, including the loss of her teaching position at Clarkson University. A pioneering and important book, this window into social and technological history also provides a marvelously clear view of contemporary ideas about women's sexuality.
