100: The Work That Changed British Art

Description
When I was living in London I visited the Saatchi Gallery and got this lovely book as a memento of my travels. If you are not familar with the YBA's I highly recommend owning this wonderfully produced book. It has some of my favorite artists such as Tracey Emin and Sarah Lucas who really shaped contemporary art of the late 90s.

Description
I recently acquired this book and was just overwhelmed by the amount of talent that is the photography field today. I highly recommend this book if you are looking to weed out the crap and really see some great contemporary photographers who are using the medium correctly.
I also love the lay out of the book and how it is divided into catergories like landscape, narrative, and fashion...it really helps to catergorize some of these artists.

These pictures are incredibly haunting and seductive. Stella's girls ooze "Lolita eque" charm that is dangerously appealing.
I have been eyeing her prints for months and might have to breakdown during this tight budget holiday season to get this one.

By Hand: The Use of Craft in Contemporary Art
2 people recommended this item
Description
"Product Description
In a response to the sleek forms and perfect angles of most late twentieth century design objects, many of today's artists and designers are returning to handmade work such as hand lettering, hand drawing, and hand sewing. By Hand features an international collection of the most noteworthy artists and shows their work in detailed photography and insightful texts. From books to pillows to T-shirts to toys, the pieces in this volume define an alternative view of contemporary design. Personal craft is emphasized over perfection and the personality of the artist is put forth as a key element of the finished product. From Kiki Smith's lovingly etched birds to Barb Hunt's knitted land mines to dynamo-ville's one-of-a-kind puppets to Evil Twin's hand-stitched publications, today's art revels in the care and consideration of craft. Description
There has been a huge collection of artists recently that have really won me over. They apart of that whole Giant Robot crew that seems to be infecting both coasts. They seem to be making some of the most beautiful, thought provoking, and affordable art that is being put out today. I am amazed at how much I love their technique and ability to capture life in just a few simple strokes.
I look forward to seeing how this group fairs in the future, hopefully this resurgence in good work will have an affect on the sludge going on in Chelsea.

I wanted to talk about Jeff Wall's work, but couldn't find an appropriate website except for the Tate Moderns' overview of their retrospective. I wish I was there to meander around and getting sucked into Wall's desolate and beautfiul reality.

Caitlin's work is clever and she has a very skillful hand. I like her repetitive patterns especially the orange peacock feathers, could you just see that as a great wallpaper or lining the inside of a closet.
