Dylan Speaks - Dvd Of Interviews With Bob Dylan

First to recommend

Description

because almost anything Bob Dylan is good, but this is particularly good because BD always loved to toy wth the press. Regardless, even when he toys, he is self-revealing, whether he intends to be or not. Not to be missed. (via amazon)

Bringing It All Back Home

Description

in my opinion, this is among Dylan's finest albums from this period. Everyone has a favorite and it's hard to pick just one with Dylan because so many are so damned good and for different reasons - he's so mercurial and changable and that is part of what makes him great. But for classic Dylan as we think we "know" Dylan, Bringing It All Back Home is the way to go with the songs that helped make his name and it has that gritty New York sound before he went too smooth and moved on to his next manager... this still retains all of the urban feeling that was still his New York sound and i love it for that (via amazon)

No Direction Home DVD, by Bob Dylan, Martin Scorsese

Description

this is Dylan as candid as i've ever seen him, likely because the interview was conducted by his manager, not Scorcese who produced the film, so Dylan felt more at ease here. This is very informative and interesting and any Dylan fan should own this... in my view anyway. (via amazon)

Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits

First to recommend

Description

because this really does have his greatest hits on it. it's an obvious choice for someone new to Dylan (i'm not new to Dylan and i have this because it's just a great album to have - tho i often prefer mostly live concert footage, some studio versions are better). Here you have all of the studio versions. For any Dylan fan, you should prob. start with this.... (via amazon)

Bob Dylan: Modern Times

so many good cuts on this and i've heard him perform them live several times now and they're even better, perhaps, live - dylan always takes license when performing live, but it's often better than the studio recording. Worth it for even "When the Deal Goes Down" and "Working Man's Blues" but really, almost every cut is good. A must have.

Blonde on Blonde by Bob Dylan

Description

Probably my second favorite album next to Bringing It All Back Home - a true classic - if you can ever get the original vinyl, it's worth it (try eBay) for the liner notes and inside cover which are different but only if you're a die-hard Dylan person... Obviously, Visions of Johanna here and so much more make this album what it is - it's smoother than a lot of Bringing It All Back Home (to me anyway) but lovely. For a real treat, try to get your hands on the live Visions of Johanna 1966 at the Philharmonic.... that entire bootleg is amazing. (via amazon)

The World's Largest Poster

Description

i found a similar poster in Paris from the same time period. Parisians are HUGE on Jim Morrison, but I could hardly find a single thing - not even a postcard - with Dylan on it, so it became a full-fledged mission. At last, i found at a local flea-market a dealer and i asked him if he had "anything with Bob Dylan" - he went into the backroom and came out with an original poster in mint condition, the only Dylan thing i saw in Paris, and charged me five euro for it. I carried it home on the plane wrapped carefully in paper and plastic and then had it for six months in my study before i moved when i had it framed. It's in mint condition. This may not be an original but it's apretty great poster - i love it. (via all posters.com)

Bob Dylan Carnegie Hall 1961 Print

First to recommend

Description

i have some framed Dylan original posters, and tho this is clearly a repro, it's all in the framing and granted, you'd have to be a die=hard Dylan fan, but if you frame this properly and professionally, it's hardly dorm-room material.... i live in a large Victorian house and have a framed Dylan poster on a clean white wall and it fits perfectly in place and looks pretty hip, actualy.... i like this one. I think i'm going for it (ftw).... (via art . com)

Blonde on Blonde has to be one of the best Dylan albums - and while i'm not normally into this sort of thing, this is well-executed, so i like this ... and i've never seen anything like it. Also, it means i don't have to frame my original (rare) album covers from the 60s, which maybe i should to preserve them, but that would mean i can only see one side of them, unless i cut them in half - hmmmm....
