This is Halloween - a list by delicious_knid

About this list:
To me Halloween about a lot more than dressing up in flammable costumes and gourging on little fun size candy bars. It is a very important holiday for me and the holloween season is about to begin...It would be hard for me to say exactly why all this means so much to me and some of it seems so unrelated...it's campy, it's macabre, it's serious, it's irreverant, it's blasphemous and deeply holy, it's ancient and it's commercial. Halloween is where I feel safe and happy and completely me.

Description
Looking for a game for All Hallow's Eve? Are you just a fan of a good game of bones? Do you just really like Halloween the way I do and the idea of glow-in-the-dark dice with bats and haunted houses gets you really really really excited?
Don't believe me that this game is freakin' awesome? Just listen to the passionate and winning arguement put forward by the manufacturer:
"the Halloween Yahtzee game is the first and only game that allows fans to enjoy the shock, fun and excitement of Halloween with classic Yahtzee game play."
Hey, I'm sold buddy...

Gris Grimly's Wicked Nursery Rhymes by Gris Grimly, Baby Tattoo Books

Description
My newest favoritist illustrator, Mr. Gris Grimly (I'm assuming "Mr.",...) has two volumes of morbid retellings of classic nursery rhymes of which this is the first...perhaps some of the parody is obvious but it is fun and wicked and reminds you of the verse of Mr. Gorey...the illustrations continue to be fantastic making me think that Mr. Grimly is the bastard son of Tim Burton, Chas Addams and Gerald Scarfe...

Boris and Bella by Carolyn Crimi, Illustrated by Gris Grimly

Description
Quite honestly, I bought this book for the wonderful illustrations by the fantastic Gris Grimly. I bought it under the auspices that it was for our daughter but really it was for me. The scratchy inked lines with impressionistic washes of color are gorgeous but the greatest thing about Mr. Grimly's style is the unique ways he allows his free-flowing lines and splatters to abstract the figures...it is a style perfect for the subject matter - namely two monsters who live in Booville and can't stand each other because one is tidy and one is messy. The felix and oscar relationship, no surprise, blossams into love and friendship by the end but along the way, we are treated to all kinds of disgusting verse and fantastically rendered monsters and creatures. It is a great book, a great book for kids with nothing offensive or questionable (i feel)...but then again, I bought it mainly because I wanted to look at the illustrations while I read to our daughter...

Cinderella Skeleton by Robert D. San Souci, Illustrated by David Catrow

Description
The perfect retelling of the classic fairytale for the little ghoul in your life. It is fairly macabre (she loses her whole foot after the ball when it snaps off on the stairs) and of course all the main characters are skeletons or corpses but the illustrations are whimisical enough and the rhyming verse silly enough that none of it feels threatening...

it's not always bad being a werewolf. sure we're hairy on the night of the full moon...well, i'm always hairy but sometimes it's worse.
and, sure, we go through a lot of pants...
but we drive better cars and we listen to better music...
and we always get the girl. one way or another...
