About this list:

To me Halloween about a lot more than dressing up in flammable costumes and gourging on little fun size candy bars. It is a very important holiday for me and the holloween season is about to begin...It would be hard for me to say exactly why all this means so much to me and some of it seems so unrelated...it's campy, it's macabre, it's serious, it's irreverant, it's blasphemous and deeply holy, it's ancient and it's commercial. Halloween is where I feel safe and happy and completely me.

Simpsons Halloween Bendables Boxed Set #1

First to recommend

Description

When I think of sacred Halloween traditions, the Simpson's Treehouse of Horror Special ranks right up there with necromancy and werewolf attacks...The bloody annual installment of this longest running series is a great way to unwind after the other two traditions...AND NOW you can play along at home with this limited edition 6 figure set of bendable Simpson's inspired by the Treehouse of Horror specials!
Snowball the cat makes an appearance as a ghostly apparition...the rest of the family is also dead or more accurately undead. I have to admit that a toy baby zombie with eyes popping out is a little...disgusting. But at their best the Simpson's are disgusting AND hilarious...the only question I have is why is Marge's dress the wrong color?

Diary of Victor Frankenstein by Timothy Basil Ering

First to recommend

Description

A sadly out of print but still obtainable minor masterpiece. Timothy Basil Ering's gorgeous illustrations and handwritten journal entries take you inside the mind of the modern prometheus. It functions as a fantastic companion to Shelley's original novel.
Besides being an interesting coffin table book, it is a glory to read. The sketches and chickenscratch scrawl suck you into a rich world of reanimated corpses and horrendous hubris. A delightful gift for a friend or yourself. Check out the internet for used copies (Powells.com, Amazon).

Nightmare Revisited

First to recommend

Description

A cover album honoring one of the most defining films of our generation. A favorite of all children of all age. This album includes the songs from the film reinterpreted by artists like Polyphonic Spree, Amy Lee, Marilyn Manson, Rodrigo y Gabriela, DeVotchKa, Sparklehorse, All American Rejects, and Plain White T's. Certainly one of the stranger albums I've ever seen released by Disney. It ranges greatly in quality from a boring cover by Manson, to a Pink Floydish cover by Polyphonic Spree to a superb and emotional renditon of Sally's Song by Amy Lee. For die-hard fan's of the film, definitly worth a listen. Go to Spin.com to hear the album streamed.

Hand of Glory Framed Curio Exhibit

First to recommend

Description

OK, forget the vampire curio...I WANT THIS! For those of you who do not know, a hand of glory is a hand which has been cut off of a dead man who was executed at the gallows. The hand is pickled with herbs in an earthenware vessel until it basically mummifies. To use the hand, who must make a candle rendered from the fat of hanged man, mixed wih a small bit of virgin wax and other ingredients. Some assert that the wick must be made from human hair. The candle itself can only be extinguished with raw milk.
When everything is ready, you light the candle and place it in the hand. What magical powers it possesses differ from place to place. Some say it renders anyone it encounters motionless, others say it makes the user invisible OR gives them a kind of second sight that allows them to see the dead. And I've heard that it will allow the user to pass through any door they encounter.
While it isn't illegal in most states to own human bones, there are some states with local laws that prohibit it. It is illegal pretty much everywhere to cut off a man's hand, pickle it and render his fat into a candle. Plus it's really messy and you'll have a hard time getting the stank out...
So check with local laws before purchasing.

Framed Curio - Charms to Prevent Against Vampire Attack Framed Curio

First to recommend

Description

Amazing gift for me...if someone wants to buy it...for me...then I would be more than happy and will probably tell you thank you. Seriously, I want this.
In the victorian curio style, the framed box includes labeled items that can prevent one of the undead from attacking you...In addition to being a beautiful physical exhibit of the europpean folklore and supersition, it may someday prove to be functional. You never know who might be a vampire. Just remember don't invite them into your house...he can't come in until you invite him...
Kind of like the mailman...

holy crap, do you think the mailman's a VAMPIRE!? Hey, you better buy this for me NOW!

Halloween Devil Witch & Skeleton Poster

First to recommend

Description

From one of my all-time favorite websites to shop at here is a beautiful victorian Halloween poster. It does a great job of showing what I love about Halloween and what it was like growing up in my house as a child...

From the site description:
This poster is 17 inches wide by 22 inches deep, generous black, orange & green ink lushly printed on glossy white stock.

The image for this poster was entirely all hand-drawn with pen and ink on paper - NO CLIP ART WAS USED!!! This poster was offset printed. No computers were used in the making of this poster.

Halloween Parcheesi

First to recommend

Description

Meant to be a wall decoration, this rustic recreation can just as easily be converted to a working game board for some Halloween themed game night fun.
I mean, when you think of board games on Halloween, what do you think of?
Oujia board?
What the hell is that?

No, no, no...you think of parcheesi.

Possessed Books - Indoor Props/Decor

First to recommend

Description

If you are unfortunate enough to live in a home where spirits DON'T move your objects around, you can always fake it with this affordable prop. A great way to add ambiance to a party or simply surprise guests year round, this decorative gag moves as if a ghost was reaching from the beyond for a book...perhaps because they have to use the restroom or because they're going on a long trip in the car and can't find their crossword puzzle book. Regardless, it will surprise any passerby as the middle volume of strange and forgotten lore suddenly slides out towards them...

Kramer Coffee Table

First to recommend

Description

Forget the urn on the mantle. Now when you pass on, your loved ones can keep you close at hand. Not only will they be able to gaze on your decomposing countenance but they can set a cup of tea or a nice big book about Matisse on top of you. You'll be fun AND functional!

This casket coffee table is available with a wood or glass top. The glass top option allows it to function as a display case in addition to a coffee table. The website "Casket Furniture" offers all sorts of nifty morbid furniture solutions from book shelves to sofas to pool tables. Seriously, the pool table is pretty sweet but this coffee table really won my heart. It comes in a variety of wood finishes and lining colors. I would definitely recommend the glass top which to quote the manufacturer: "allows for creative display possibilities in casket cavity - wines, skeletons, fish, enemies, etc."
