Conspicuous Consumption - a list by oO

About this list:

Things that I would love to get if I had more money than brain, but still some definite amount of taste. We are not talking about saving the world from climate crisis, ending poverty or world hunger, this is pure, unadulterated disposable income, disposed of in the most visible, without being vulgar, manner. Think James Bond, not Paris Hilton.

Description

Once you have bought your personal island, what else can you do with you considerable (or possibly imaginary) wealth, but get one of those cute personal submarines from uBoat Worx? spelling of the company aside, these look like a lot of fun.

The one person CQ1 is priced at 55K (euros) and 85K will allow you to bring a friend along in the two-people CQ2.

Virgin Galactic

Description

For a deposit of 20K and a ticket price of 200K USD (thankfully roundtrip) you can become a space tourist, and see the earth from space for a few minutes, before gravity pulls you back down again.

Compared to the 20 Millions that current space tourist pay to hitch a ride on the regular space program, it's a bargain. (via oO's very eclectic)

Venturi Fetish

First to recommend

Description

Created in Monaco on the Cote D'Azur for the extremely rich yet eco-conscious driver, the Venturi Fetish was the first electric sportscar in production. When it first came out in 2004 the starting price was around 500,000 Euro but just like most advanced electronic technology, the new models are even more performance and cost even less, so you can buy one today only 375,000 Euro.

Personally I love the design from Sasha Lakik, and the fact that even though you can reach 0-60 in less than 5 seconds, you can still drive about 250KM on a single charge, which will cost about 2$, which is a lot less than what filling up the average Lamborghini will cost you. Wraith Motorcycle

Description

If MadMax IV ever gets made (which I know won't be for another 6 to 9 months because we are currently keeping George Miller very busy with our Dancing Penguins) then this is definitely the bike Mel Gibson should ride. Beautiful combination of design cues that are both antique and post-apocalypticly modern, the B91 Wraith from Confederate Motorcycles is the perfect vehicle to roam the post peak-oil mad-maxedness of the australian desert.

However owning one of the 150 hand-made production models produced every year doesn't come cheap, with the Wraith priced at 55,000 USD, and the other CM motorcycle, costing a lovely 65,000 USD. (via oO's very eclectic)

Thatch Cay, Private Island

First to recommend

Description

One of the last symbol of unashamed luxury is the private island. And surprisingly enough price start for less money than a small appartment in a chic urban center, but of course you need to factor in those incredible fedex bills when they have to hire a private pilot to drop ship your latest order from Amazon.com

This particular one, is in the upper range of what is currently for sales at Vladi's Provate Island, gets you:

A truly unique and private island paradise, with more than 5 miles of spectacular shoreline in the US Virgin Islands! This 230 acres island is one of the last undisturbed, undeveloped treasures in the Caribbean, just a short hop from the conveniences of St. Thomas & St. John. The peak rises almost 500 ft. above the sea commanding extraordinary 360 degree views.

The island is ideally suited for residential development of multiple estate size home sites which would afford spectacular views along with complete seclusion, or a sensational single family compound in a private and beautiful natural setting. Other possibilities include a corporate retreat, spa, artist colony or an eco-tourism destination with designated preserves set amidst tropical splendor. Multiple options for docks, helipads, etc., exist. (via oO's very eclectic)

URWERK 103.05 Watch

First to recommend

Description

I love the fact that eventhough this watch costs more than an exclusive italian sportscar, it still has an amazing amount of poise and a total lack of in your face bling. I just love the design of the case and the way the 4 satellite disks spin to show the current time.

Wear it and only the rarefied few will know that the case was precision milled from a solid block of titanium, then micro-sandblasted and hand polished with hymalayan goat hair. (via oO's very eclectic)
