The Red Wine Diet

Description

A diet that prescribes drinking red wine? Sign me up!

But no, it's not exactly a diet to lose weight. It's a plan to live long and healthy.

Roger Corder's Red Wine Diet reveals that compounds called procyanidins are the key components of wine for preventing illness. However, it's not just any red wine. Grape variety, wine-making style, and other factors, can affect levels of procyanidins. Is a Syrah better than a Cab? (I hope so). Is California better than France? Corder employs a personal rating system, to describe the most beneficial wines he's found to date and includes recipes featuring foods that are also high in procyanidins.

Williams-Sonoma Entertaining: Inspired Menus For Cooking with Family and Friends

First to recommend

Description

I got this book as a birthday gift several years ago because my friends had just come to a birthday dinner party that I had hosted. Sarah + Entertaining = Naturally!

The book is enormous, which makes it difficult to use in the kitchen, but the recipes are good enough that I make do with what little counter space I have left when I open it up. The recipes are organized first by season, then by type of party. I doubt that anyone would actually do an entire party out of this book, but flipping through it, you do get some good ideas for themes as well as tips for decorating and advance preparation.

Because it is currently summer, I have been paying close attention to the Summer parties, which include a Solstice Party (perfect since it lands on my June birthday!), a Garden Party, a Summer Barbecue, and the Seaside Supper.

Street Food

Description

I don't fly. The only "street food" I'm getting is bacon-wrapped hot fogs off a cart on Hollywood Boulevard or something I make in my own kitchen from Tom Kim's book and carry out to the street in front of my building.

MORIMOTO: The New Art of Japanese Cooking

First to recommend

Description

I am allergic to the philosophy of Asian fusion cuisine. EW. Spicy tuna tartare? Wasabi mashed potatoes? Green tea creme brulee? I am OVER it. In fact, I was never under it to begin with.

However, I make exception for Masaharu Morimoto because NOT ONLY is he an Iron Chef, but he was one of the ORIGINAL Iron Chefs on the Japanese version of the show.

Bouchon

2 people recommended this item

Description

As big as a coffee tabletop itself, my copy of the Bouchon cookbook by Thomas Keller never makes its way to my kitchen, but the book is stunning. I love sitting on my couch on a lazy Sunday afternoon flipping through its pages and just dreaming of how delicious the food is. One day, I may actually attempt something in the book, but I just don't want to mess up the beautiful pages in the kitchen.

Eat This Book: Cooking with Global Fresh Flavors

First to recommend

Description

i {heart} tyler florence in a every way possible without being weird. he's hot, charming, sometimes lets that little Southern accent slip, and he cooks food the way I like to eat: comfortably. Eat this books starts each recipe with a short anecdote about why the dish is important to tyler, which is absolutely adorable.
