Summer Gear - a list by Nicole

About this list:
Ahhh summer. In California it's a time to run around a frolick. In New York it's about avoiding the heat and sticking close to the air conditioner. Here are some recent things I've fallen in love with to help beat summer heat while looking cool.

KINeSYS Sun Block
First to recommend
Description
We received travel-sized samples of KINeSYS at ThisNext awhile ago. I'd never had an occassion to put it to the test until last weekend when I went to blazing hot Palm Springs.
I had thrown a few different travel sized products in my bag: two different sprays (one a non-fragrance) and also a travel-sized stick of sunblock for the areas of the face.
When I pulled them out for my friends to look at one of them started freaking out about how cool it was that it had Parasol 1789 in it. She says that she never burns when she uses sun screen with this ingredient.
Researchers at Penn's Department of Dermatology and other universities have found that the addition of PARSOL 1789 -- a patented UVA filter recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration -- to sun-screen products may protect the skin against the full spectrum of those damaging UVA rays.
Whatever it was, it worked. KINeSYS didn't drip in my eyes, didn't leave a sticky dirty feeling when it dried and best of all, didn't give me a sunburn!
I strongly recommend the travel size because days later I was in my car and stuck in traffic and felt one half of my body getting a reluctant tan through my car window. Having worked so hard in Palm Springs I wasn't about to get car-tan so I grabbed the bottle out of the purse and gave myself a few quick squirts and all was right with the world, I mean my tan, again.

Buy everything from this artist. Heard him awhile ago and is one of my favorites although he's not very big in the states yet. Good beats, thoughtful message and each album is golden. A good mix of R&B and hip-hop vibe with some singing and spoken word. The first two albums are on iTunes and the latest, Atlantis, is on Amazon.
It's all good but some of my faves...

Seychelles Women's Made with Love Sandal

Description
I bought these before a trip to Mexico and discovered they were really comfortable and cute with most the wardrobe. The shoe is a good color of brown and has aqua blue accents that add a little extra something. They break in easy as well with a little stretch across the top of the foot.
Comfortable height too, not too tall and the platform has some give so your feet don't start to hurt after an hour of dancing. (via Shoes.com)

This website does not do justice to the beauty of Itay's work. He is THE best kept secret in LA. I found him on the Santa Monica Prominade about 6 years ago and everytime I am in the area I visit. I haven't been to either of the stores. I just stick to the cart at the promenade as that's where I always find him making new designs. He makes incredible beautiful, delicate, unique and classy jewelry using semi-precious stones that give everything a very rich feel. And, considering the materials and craftmanship it's totally affordable. Perfect for dressing up those sassy summer dresses and outfits.
Everything is hand-crafted and of supreme quality. Every time I wear a piece of jewelry I purchased from him (especially necklaces) I get a ton of compliments. If you're near the Santa Monica promenade look for his cart with the name ANTIQUA on it. Tell him a fan sent you. (via Antiqua Jewelry)

Shop Robertson | Skirts & Dresses

Description
I am in love with this dress by Mimo. In fact I like a lot of stuff by this desginer. This lovely ensamble features really simple cotton eyelet to keep you cool and ventilated. It's short to show off great legs and white to show off an even better tan. I love the top portion as it looks highly flattering to the, ahem, chestal region. If you visit the site you can see other angles of the dress including the oh-so-cute back.
Perfect for my trip to mexico. (via Shop Robertson)
