4-Piece Stainless Steel Measuring Cup Set
First to recommend
Description
The only measuring cups you'll ever need. Straight sides make it easier to measure half if for some reason you only need 1/8 of a cup (though 2 tablespoons would be even easier).

Bamboo Spoons

Description
Essential for any kitchen, but now in sustainable bamboo. Plus if you're lazy like me, you can throw them in the dishwasher.

Kyocera Adjustable Ceramic Slicer - Black
First to recommend
Description
Veggies are more fun to eat when they're pretty. Super sharp ceramic blade makes slicing evenly a piece of cake. Be sure to use the guard and watch those fingers!

carbon steel cleaver

Description
Why spend hundreds of dollars on a cleaver when the best ones can be bought for under $10? I reach for mine daily and have had it for years.

R H Forschner 8-inch Chef's Knife, Black Fibrox Handle

Description
Ok, you shouldn't give someone a knife (superstition says it will sever a friendship), but if you make them buy it from you for a buck or less, this is a great gift for a new chef. Outranking more expensive knifes by Cooks Illustrated, I've "sold" this knife to several people who use it daily and love it.

Lodge Cast Iron Cookware - America's Original Cookware

Description
The original non-stick cookware. It only gets better with age. I have my great-grandmother's old pan that's over 50 years old. The best cookware buy you'll ever make.
