I have had a version of this watch for several years now. It is lightweight, attractive and extremely durable. I have played baseball, done woodworking, cleaned dishes, banged walls and otherwise thoroughly abused this watch and you couldn't tell by looking at the watch.

The thin profile means this works well with any dress shirt as well. Highly recommended.

Like a Roomba for your pool, this robotic cleaner not only vacuums up dirt and leaves, but scrubs the tiles along the water line. I have a keyhole shaped pool and it manages to find all of the areas it needs to get to and does a great job cleaning.

Watching the Tigershark move around your pool is mesmerizing. It is particularly fun if you have a layer of dust on the bottom of the pool (after heavy winds for example), so you can see the crazy path it takes.

I love these DVDs! While I don't think I be going out and buying a whip any time soon, I intend on learning many of the other tricks in this book/DVD series: pencil spinning, basketball spinning, card throwing and some of the frisbee tricks are what are on my short list. The quality of the instruction is pretty high: the skateboard tricks I know are presented in a way that is very understandable.

If you have even a little bit of a show-off in you (and what guy doesn't?), you'll love these DVDs.

We started with a 4 pack of these magnetic kitchen clips, and we use them for so many things that we are up to 12 now. We use them to hold photos on the fridge, close potato chip bags, close coffee bags, hold notes, and even hold the bread bag closed when we break or lose those stupid plastic clips.

Ever since some genius decided to make liquid soap only come in highly concentrated form I have been trying to find away to use the small amount now required in a reasonable way.

I tried the various sponge on the end of a handle thingies, but didn't like any of them. Unlike some of the other OXO products I own, it wasn't love at first sight with this palm brush -- but after a few months of usage I find that I always reach for it first. It is durable, rarely needs refilling, and just gets the job done.

My kids (9 and 11) have been riding this continuosly for almost a year now. We have hard wood floors that they ride it on and there hasn't been any damage -- not that I would recommend that if your floors are new or in great shape or anything. Every kid who visits our house loves this.

The initial UI sketches for ThisNext were done on 3"x5" scratch pads.

There is a certain freedom when brainstorming knowing that you intend to throw things away. 3"x5" scratch pads are perfect for that, they encourage crumbling a sheet instead of erasing allowing you to completely rethink your approach.

I have loose sheets from these pads full of writing all over my desk. By the end of the week they have all ended up recorded more permanently or thrown in the trash. Crumbling them up as they are completed is very satisfying.

Actually, I guess I do. This camera forces you to let go of your internal perfectionist because it just doesn't have the ability to produce perfection... You and the camera collaborate to create the photograph. You supply the framing and the subject, the Holga camera supplies random light leaks and a large square image. A match made in heaven if you aren't a contral freak.

Perhaps it is cheating to recommend two versions of the Moleskine notebook, but the small rule-lined Moleskine I keep in my back pocket feels completely unrelated to the large sketchbook that I do UI design in.

Yeah, you read that correctly, I still do UI design with pencil on paper. This isn't appropriate for actual mockups, but it takes you really far when you are working out ideas. Using higher fidelity tools often makes it harder for me to focus on the user because I am so focused on the aesthetic I use the sketchbook because the pages erase extremely well and are very durable.

My kids' drawings and doodles fill half my current notebook. It is a communal, portable art gallery.

If your writing instrument is a tool to let people know who you are, get a fountain pen. Stick with a major brand so people can easily recognize that you are someone to be taken seriously.

If instead your writing instrument is a tool to create with, get a good quality pencil. One that feels right in your hand and as it moves across the page. This Palomino is a good place to start.

The uncostume -- just throw some glow in the dark gel on your hair (or use it as body paint) and go as a glowstick... I am one of those suckers who always gets the glow in the dark necklace at amusement parks, so the idea of having the glow without the necklace is really appealing.

An indispensable tool for those that routinely mistreat their magazines and catalogs by ripping pages out to remember things.

I can remember how wrong it felt the first time I tore a page out of a magazine, even though the magazine was headed for the recycle bin. It felt like such a violation... Now I routinely do this but often can't remember which item it was that I was interested in.

This neat tool allows you to quickly and safely cut out the specific thing that caught your eye. The extremely small blade will not hurt you, you can even through this in your pocket. It is fasty and easy to use, unlike the several other tools I experimented with before finding this one. When I first heard about this ages ago from Cool Tools, they were sold out. Wow. Gorgeous.

This ultra-light, ultra slow flying plane makes it possible to fly inside normal size rooms. It isn't cheap (~$300), but it supposed to be virtually indestructible and comes with a custom aluminum carrying case. There is a cheaper version, but it is made of materials that would be easier to damage.

The plane recharges off the transmitter which runs on AA batteries.

What's not to love? Fantastic illustrations, great story, and an opportunity for improvisation. I have read this to my boys at least 100 times. I still read it to them when they will let me, but that's pretty rare (they are 9 and 10 now).

In case anyone is wondering, the sound you should make for the wild ruckus is "ooga-booga ooga-booga ooga-booga boo." Okay, so it isn't written in the book... it's obvious, isn't it?

Who can live without Tivo? Not only can I track my obscure Discovery shows as they shift around the clock, I can pause when planes go overhead (I live in a flight path).

This book is my go to book when I am cooking and come across terms I don't know. My baking improved considerably when I realized that there were actually different ways to mix stuff and that it mattered.

I bought this for my dad, who is a fantastic cook, hoping he would find some value in it. He actually refers to it all of the time because it is the one book that covers everything.

A must have.

Can a t-shirt be cute and somehow disturbing at the same time? This one is. The art looks just plain wrong -- but on inspection it is hard to find anything to object to.

I also love the kozyndan t-shirt with a bunny wearing headphones.

I bought both of these shirts at Giant Robot in L.A., but their on-line store doesn't carry them for some reason.

I have carried around a small Swiss Army knife for years and have always found it useful. It was often underpowered for common tasks though (like cutting through the hard clear plastic that every product seems to come in nowadays). This knife is small and the scissors are powerful. They cut through fingernails and that evil plastic with equal ease.

The fact that it includes a bottle opener for opening the celebratory beer after your struggle to get the product out of the packaging is just a bonus. (via Eric Hammond)

This pen is the perfect complement to the small Moleskine notebook. It can click on the elastic strap from the notebook, is the same width as the notebook, and won't fall of if you have the notebook in your back pocket.

In addition, this pen will never leak and the lid covers the pen extremely securely so you won't accidentally write on yourself either. Because it is pressurized (it was invented by Fisher for NASA), it will always write -- even upside down.

Okay, I tried the upside down thing and while interesting, I don't really have any use for using it that way.

There have been a variety of new types of skateboards on the market lately, but none has really looked all that interesting to me. As an ex-skateboarder, most of the new in-line an snake skateboards seem to offer limited opportunity for tricks.

These "skates" (a in-line skateboard for each foot, no straps) seem to offer the ability to combine skate moves with skateboarding moves. Plus, they just seem plain impossible which is always good. (via Cool Hunting)

Wow. This. Rocks.

I just received mine as a gift and have loved playing with it so far. My son Ian and I built the first robot in about 1/2 an hour. Ian was able to pick up how to program it in their visual language in just a few minutes, even though he has never programmed anything before. He built a robot that drives forwards until it hits something, says "oops, sorry", backs up and spins around runs right into the obstacle again. It does this until you get annoyed enough to turn it off.

I had considered trying to teach my kids how to program using the old programming language Logo. In spirt and in use, the visual language for the Mindstorms is a good replacement -- being able to play sounds really makes everything a lot more fun.
