UPDATE: The feature for routing certain protocols to a specific WAN occasionally does not work on this router. NETGEAR support recommended I spend $240 more to upgrade to a higher end NETGEAR model which "has fewer problems" (their words).

OLD REVIEW: This dual-WAN router allows me to use a DSL and a cable Internet connection concurrently on my home network with load balancing, failover, and various custom routing rules. The QoS settings allow me to control what services get priority when the network traffic is high. And, it's Gigabit on the LAN.

This is a powerful little pocket flashlight which uses a single AA battery. If you haven't tested the latest generation of LED torches, you have no idea how bright these things are getting. This one is an especially great introduction given how cheap it is. I paid $17 with free shipping from dealextreme.com and it almost as bright as my $60 Fenix pocket LED flashlight.

Thanks to Ask for recommending the Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 scanner (though I'm sure he bought the Mac version). This thing is amazing!

I'm scanning in all my bills, statements, and other documents and then dropping them right into the shreader below the scanner. Use Amazon S3 with encryption for backup and my documents are safer for long term storage than in my house and they take up much less room.

Best features:

- This scanner is tiny. It's a bit wider than a sheet of paper and about as deep as a hardback book.

- It is fast. Sheets you're scanning get zipped through one after the other. Oh, did I mention it has an automatic document feeder so I can scan my entire 50 page phone bill?

- It scans both sides in the first pass.

- The scanned image is crystal clear. It looks like a perfect reproduction of the printed document in every detail (including creases).

- It works with Linux, though not right out of the box. Ask me how if you don't find it on Google.

Now for the bad news: The Fujitsu ScanSnap S510 scanner is expensive. However, the usability means I actually use this scanner instead of letting a less expensive scanner gather dust. (via Ask Bjørn Hansen)

I have a theory that somebody gave Diplo a list of a couple dozen songs that he couldn't pull together into a single modern album, especially since many of them are not good music by today's standards. He took the challenge and pulled it off, though you'll have to let the album play for a while to really appreciate it.

My kids have been playing or singing the songs on this CD non-stop since I brought it to them yesterday. Though it's obviously targeted at younger children, in my 10 year old son's words, "I'm surprised I like it so much". As an adult, I can appreciate the various genres and styles that the band plays, and the tunes really are toe tapping catchy.

After reading a number of positive reviews for GustBuster umbrellas, I finally had the chance to buy one (i.e., I left my old umbrella somewhere and never found it). Then, I waited months and months until I had the chance to use it. Finally it rained in LA and I can now join the ranks of the GustBuster fans.

This umbrella is very well built. It has a very nice feel to the action during opening, locking, unlocking and closing. I chose the 62" model because there is a lot of me to protect from the rain, but I have to assume that the many other GustBuster models are of equal quality.

Clue is a classic board game that has survived the years. Beginners can start off with some basic logic (process of elimination) but advanced players can keep track of everything from what other players ask to where they travel (or don't). Everything can be a clue.

The key here is "compact". This is a slim little wireless router that can easily be slipped in your laptop case and then you can set up a temporary wireless network when you arrive at your relatives. Or use it as a permanent wifi router instead of those big ugly ones.

Somehow I didn't mind paying $10 to see an extra long episode of The Simpsons at the movie theater and I hardly even watch the show on TV. The Simpsons Movie was good, lighthearted fun from beginning to end and at no point did I find myself getting bored.

This adapter is perfect if you want to access the information on old IDE hard drives you have sitting around. It's also decent for using a new, loose IDE hard drive as a way to transfer large amounts of data between two computers. Best of all, it was plug and play on Ubuntu Linux.

If you're a super hero movie addict (I'm not) you'll probably have to see Spider-Man 3. If you liked the first two Spider-Man movies (I almost did) you'll enjoy this one too. Spider-Man 3 has some fascinating new special effects with sand and the action sequences are dizzying, but the flat characters and yawn/frown worthy plot left me shaking my head.

Natural Selection was thoroughly a enjoyable read (or "listen" in my case with Audible.com). The suspense is tangible, the action thrilling, and the science almost believable. This is the kind of stuff I used to expect from Michael Chrichton when he was writing great fiction.

Were Michael Chrighton's earlier works really that much better or am I just getting more judgemental in my old age? Next had a few spots that grabbed my attention and raised a few interesting questions, but I didn't feel like it really held or flowed together as a whole story. The Traveler is a combination of science fiction, thriller, and techno-political preaching. Some of the surveilance monitoring technology in this book seems a bit far fetched for today, but we are definitely headed in that direction. I enjoyed the thriller/adventure aspects of The Traveler.

Sweet fizzy nothingness. With free sodas at work, I think I started drinking a bit too much caffeinated Diet Coke. The Caffeine Free Diet Coke lets me keep up that sip every few habit during certan hours of the day without subjecting my body to the caffeine. I don't think my mind can tell the difference while I'm drinking.

The rules to Razzle Dazzle can be described in about three sentences, so it's extremely easy to learn the basics. My son and I have been playing it a couple days, though, and we are still trying to figure out what the best offense and defense strategies might be. At this point we're pretty sure that it's easier than chess, but not sure if it's harder than checkers. Razzle Dazzle combines chess-knight moves for the wood pieces and chess-queen moves for a marble that jumps between the wood pieces. It's a unique combination that makes for a fairly quick, enjoyable diversion. So far, Nicholas has won all of our games by seeing combination moves that I wasn't able to detect. If you didn't like "Sin City" you probably won't like "300". If you did like "Sin City", you might like "300". This movie is definitely worth watching just for the special effects and visual presentation of the landscape, but you have to be willing to accept over-the-top dialog for what it is.

Toys is another of one of those movies that I can watch repeatedly but which I have a hard time finding anybody else who liked it at all. I find toys beautifully uplifting and briefly disturbing and the visuals and music are so (over the top) pure I can't help smiling. Most of the movie would be wonderful for young kids, but there are a couple scenes to give them nightmares so I don't recommend it. Don't expect a deep movie, but do watch it on a large screen TV.

I have to nominate Red Planet for the biggest bad movie ever. I wouldn't normally recommend a bad movie, but in this case the badness is so stunningly immense, I highly recommend you watch it just to experience the disaster that is this movie. I saw this movie in the theater and was minute after minute overwhelmed by how it continued its terribleness for an hour and a half.

Some movies are bad because they are done by bad actors and have no budget. Red Planet managed to hire some biggish actors, obviously had a budget for special effects and publicity, but managed to completely fail in the following categories: plot, story, dialog, acting, science, realism, continuity, believability, and any sort of enjoyability.

This movie is such a great example of how a big production can go wrong, I bought the DVD.

I think this is probably a bad movie, but I can't look away when it's on. The only thing I really hate is that annoying character (you'll figure out who I mean quickly enough). For some reason whenever I see the title of this movie I mutter "mul-ti-pass".

There's just something about the simple, slow pace of this movie that draws me in. I must have seen it a dozen times or more. For some reason I can't explain, the performance of "End of My Journey" in the middle of the movie moves me so much I get tears in my eyes every time.

I'm only through disc 1 so far, but I had to recommend this on ThisNext. This album totally rocks! Whitesnake just released this double live album a few months ago, but this is top quality classic rock. I'm listening through my headphones and I've seen a couple coworkers give me strange looks--I just can't sit still listening to this music. (Or am I singing out loud?)
