My job requires me to be on my feet and work fast in slippery conditions. I've found these shoes meet dress code standards while providing the best in a work shoe.

Each shoe has an extremely soft and supportive Fitzwell gel insert. They've also got a nice rubber tread on the bottom for slip resistance. They don't look too bad either.

A great kit and a nice gift. Comes with everything you need for a high quality, smooth-as-butter shave.

I particularly recommend the Facial Cleanser. It's the first step, and I've used it alone (with some shave cream) and found it works wonders. Really cleans your skin for an irritation free shave. It can be bought alone.

The kit comes in a nice black mesh dopp bag.

While my artistic abilities fall for too short, I still love taking pictures. I purchased one of the first consumer level dSLR's, the Nikon D70. I recently had a chance to try the Canon XSI and all I can say is, wow.

These cameras have seriously developed since their early years. A 12 megapixel CMOS sensor that cleans itself, 9-point autofocus system, and a slew of easy to use 'modes' for portraits, macro, etc. Pictures come out wonderfully saturated and exposed on automatic mode, but there are easy modes to play around with the aperture, shutter etc. while the camera handles all the rest for you.

I would recommend this over the lower model XTI. The XSI comes with an optical-stabilized lens, which is a huge plus when shooting in low light without a tripod. It's worth the extra cost.

Best entry level dSLR on the market right now.

Just look at that cover. Just look at that title. You couldn't expect me to pass that up, could you?

Plato and a Platypus goes straight to the heart of most all philosophical theories, questions and answers. It does so using jokes. As it turns out, quite a few jokes (a book-full) illuminate quite a few philosophical ideas. Coincidence?

Either way, a great read. Plus you'll get to throw around the term 'Infinite regression' at parties and watch as people smile and walk slowly away.

I wouldn't normally recommend an academic textbook. But when a book is this well presented, I can't pass it up. Biology is the study of life, and how we (and our animal friends) work is simply fascinating. This book gets an A+ from me for its easy, non-technical language and wonderfully informative illustrations. The included CD and website provide incredible animations that really let you see how things work. This is one textbook I'm going to keep.

Perhaps it's slightly metro, but this has a very smooth, satisfying feel and keeps your skin looking great. It has olive oil extract for moisture and an SPF of 15 for healthy skin.

This is a fascinating and mind-bending read. Simon Singh does an excellent job of taking a complex subject and making it into simple portions. It tells you what codes are, and how they are broken. It's quite a history lesson too - codes and ciphers have been in use since Caesar, and Egypt as well. You'll learn progressively harder (yet fascinating) code methods as well as cracking methods. It's very well balanced between learning and just fascinating information - never too hard to understand.

There have been a few developments since this was written, but only a few. I recommend it to anyone who wants to keep their mind active or simply learn about an historical subject.

Sorry for all the scuba related posts lately. The season is finally starting here and I've got the bug :)

This is a great snorkel for divers and swimmers alike. It really stays 100% dry. You can plunge below the waves and check out something underwater, and when you pop back up you simply continue breathing. No water ever enters.

It also has a purge valve, in case you let water in through the mouthpiece. Just give a quick breath to get any residual H2O out.

This one caught my eye awhile back at the bookstore. It claimed to 'Revive Your Mind, Complete Your Education, and Roam Confidently with the Cultured Class'. I couldn't pass that up.

It's actually quite good. The premise comes from a religious devotional, where you study something new every day. Here, the subjects are secular and for your education. There is one page for every day of the year.

The pages follow an order. History, literature, philosophy, mathematics and science, religion, fine arts, and music are featured every week in that order. You'll start off with basics (what is a note or pitch in music, who was Aristotle) and inch towards a more complete understanding (Platonic forms and 'the cave', black holes, the Modernist movement.)

All in all, very interesting, and you'll probably find yourself reading a few pages a day as they are all so interesting and quick. Nice hardcover with a fabric page marker to save your place.

Do you like the product name? I think it could be a tad longer.

True to my gadget fetish, I dutifully tried out this Panasonic shaver. Overall? Not bad! The best part is that the shaver is waterproof and can be used in the shower. The motor is also quite strong, giving it the strength to cut through any shave creams or foams you wish to use.

The head pivots nicely in all directions. It has given me the closest shave out of all the electrics I have tried so far. The charging base is somewhat boring, and the cleaning system lacks sweetness and light in the scent department, but it works, and is much cheaper than comparable systems.

Finally, a NIvea for men product that doesn't have to be imported. The 'Cool' bodywash has a fresh, clean and well, cool scent. It contains menthol which really works well in the mornings as a natural upper.

A useful flashlight with some fun to boot. It features 10 different colored LED's. A small black button on top changes the current color, while a firm rubber one on the end is the on/off switch.

The white light is really bright, perfect for everyday/all-around the house use. You can use Red at night to preserve your night vision. Green for contrast, yellow for fog. The others just look cool :)

It also has 2 display modes where all the colors parade after another. turn off the lights and shine this at something, and lear a little about color theory :) - get a whole new appreciation for CMYK printing!

I mean, if you're into that.

Up the Agency is a funny look at the advertising world with all its quirks, slang and types. It's written by Peter Mayle, who actually worked in advertising before he became a full time writer.

It's a tiny bit outdated, as the internet is not in this at all. But it's still rather funny, in that dry, matter-of-fact British humor way. $10 new.

If you'd like to make lots of different coffees for different people very quickly, nothing beats the Keurig K-Cup system. Their top of the line consumer model is the B70, which offers adjustable portion sizes, automatic on/off timers and even a precise temperature setting.

You are limited to the K-Cups, but don't feel too locked in. There's a huge variety of brands and types of coffees for this system. Need a cool, largish and useful thermos that you can use in the car? Sigg makes a great one, and it's available in 3 colors: Red, blue, or Silver.

It's double walled for maximum temperature (hot OR cold) maintenance. It HAs a snazzy, rubber-trimmed handle and an easy to use sliding sip cover. It holds 0.5 liter/500 ml/16.9 Oz of liquid, meaning it's just the right size for a Grande Latte.

Sigg is having some production snags this summer, but they should have those worked out soon.

The Miniwave is a smaller version of Princeton's popular 'Shockwave' dive light. It's still fully waterproof to 400 feet. It still has a locking switch and 2 power modes, low and high.

It's a lot lighter though. The Shockwave makes you carry around 8 'C' cell batteries, which are pretty heavy. This light cuts the weight in half while giving you virtually the same luminosity - 150 lumens.

Plus, you're using LED lights, which just about never burn out, give an intense white glow and are pretty impossible to break.

Lasts for 4 hours on high, 10 on low. Adjustable wrist strap included.

Solid bag. It's a PVC webbing, dry-pocket toting, water bottle stashing bag for all your scuba gear. BCD, regulators, gauges, computers, fins, even a wetsuit and a towel - they all fit in here. It's got 2 padded straps so you can easily carry your stuff backpack style, but it also has side handles for boat handling.

WIne connoisseur? Then this isn't for you. But if you like wine and would like to learn a little more about it, this is a great book.

It's by Matt Skinner, sommelier to Jamie Oliver's (the guy on TV) restaurant. What's best about this book is its absolute lack of airs or pretentiousness. It starts out assuming you know nothing - and that's ok!

It is a pretty thorough book if you want to learn about wine, but it does skimp a bit on the details. You will not find an exhaustive list here, or a large comparison of regions and varieties. But you will find everything you need to begin your alcoholic adventure. It has the details on grape to wine, vinter to market, and market to you (and how to choose!) You'll find yourself better educated and know where you stand with wine.

Plus it's only $5 :)

Seriously though, if you have gum disease (or just want to prevent it!) an oral irrigator is a great way to get a thumbs up from your dentist. This compact little unit easily fills up and shoots the water out with a nice, even pressure. It's easy to refill and turn on and off.

It so hard to get nice and comfortable for a nap at work. These rings make it a bit easier, but only a bit, as they're rather small.

The best time to shave is while you shower. The hot water and steam softens your beard and skin.

To minimize blood loss, a mirror is a good idea.

At $9.99, this is a good deal. It's a fogless shower mirror that really works. It has a nice sized mirror to focus on your face and has a slight magnification effect for close-up detail. The suction cups stay glued to the wall unless you manually rip them off. And it really doesn't fog! It also has 2 handy hanging notches for razor blades and could probably support a small can of saving cream as well on the ledge.

It's really important to backup your computer, but finding the time and tools to do so can be daunting. Well, here I present one of the tools.

I use a Mac and have tried other brands before but this LaCie drive is the best I've seen. It's nearly silent, thanks to its heat-dispersing design, extremely well built, and a breeze to use - just switch it on or off. It shows up on my Mac in seconds and ejects just as easily. It can be connected via 4 ways: eSATA/FireWire800/FireWire400/USB 2.0

For backup software, I recommend Super Duper! or Time Machine for a Mac.

If you use Windows, look into Retrospect Express.

Ah, Coin Magic. I got this book as a wee thing and learned some cool, out-of-sight trickeries designed to amuse and dazzle.

Learn the basics of coin magic. As always with Klutz books, you'll get a ton of cool tricks that anyone can do.

For example, the quarter that comes with the book. It's double-sided. Never lose a coin toss again!

Just make sure you always call 'Heads'.
