For them, the book will help them to decrease the (non) nutritional impact of always eating fast food.

Though the recipes are not particularly special, the real value in this book is the all of the information about each of the types of grains from amaranth to quinoa to...the most common, whole wheat. It's not a new book (2002), but it's a good, basic intro to breads, both yeast-raised and quick, for bakers. Though Williams-Sonoma has another entire book dedicated to muffins, there are a few recipes in this book under "breakfast breads." (via Cookbook-a-Day Giveaway)

A comprehensive cookbook that has not only recipes for everything from a blueberry muffin to slightly more complicated things like Fish en Papillote. The book is divided into 50 chapters of obvious categories like "Salads" and "Pasta," as well as slightly more interesting ways to think of cooking like "Heatless Cooking" and "Romantic." It's a good reference, and won't replace my cooking bible, Joy of Cooking, but it's still a good one to have. (via Cookbook-a-Day Giveaway)

It's a little arrogant, isn't it? To say that you can cook the "perfect" anything with this cookbook? I'm okay with it, though, because the one recipe I did try, Roasted Tomato Soup, was delicious. A good resource for a wide range of nothing-too-fancy baked goods from Candied Ginger Cookies to Coffee Rum Brownies to Chocolate Pecan Bourbon Pie.

This is for somewhat more advanced palates and work habits than “Quick & Easy” (and “Quick” here is a lot less snappy). The recipes by Katharine Ibbs are accompanied by meticulous photo sequences by Howard Shooter. Users should be able to safely handle blenders and food processors. The ridiculous handily outweighs the sublime here, and Ms. Brennan is not slow to reach for convenience ingredients, like canned baked beans.
