In Utero: Nirvana

"I'd call it the second best Nirvana album ever (i guess that not that hard when there was only 3 studio releases), second only to Nevermind. This was Nirvana's final hoorah and a helluva hoorah, at that. Bets track --The closer, All Apologies."
BuzzCuts

"Every single time I see the commercial on television I swear that I am going to buy BuzzCuts. lol It's all my favorite emo songs from the 90s and I want it so, so bad."
Mona Lisa: 11-20-79
1 recommendation
"Mona Lisa was probably one of the most talented singers to come out around the era that Brandy, Monica, and Aaliyah were all getting their start but unlike the others she fell short of becoming a superstar but her album is full of amazing songs and she has a beautiful voice!"
Quindon
1 recommendation
"Quindon has a beautiful voice and this is one album that I've always been able to listen to from beginning to end. Even today, it still doesn't get old and this came out in 1995! My favorite song is "Dream About You" and "Wrap Your Heart Around Mine"."
Superunknown: Soundgarden

"Of all the great frontmen to come out of the Seattle grunge scene, I always like Chris Cornell's voice the best. Of course it's showcased really nicely in "Black Hole Sun", the key single off this album. The whole album is great though, keeping Soundgarden's unique sound but making a really great mainstream album. Yes, it's a bit dark and brooding, but that's what's great about it."
Throwing Copper: Live

"This album was a staple of my teenage years. There's dramatic guitar fills and the vocal delivery has enough punch and aggression to match up to my teen angst. But it manages to hold up over time. There are some well crafted songs in here. "I Alone" is dark but catchy, s is "Selling the Drama". "Lightening Crashes" is a good song, if you can get past the over-exposure that almost ruins it for..."
Vitalogy: Pearl Jam

"On their third album, Pearl Jam goes from the forefront of grunge to rock gods. They've cemented their place as a strong voice in the alt rock jungle of the 90s. They've crafted great songs full of meaning but don't forget that message means nothing if the song isn't strong and catchy. It also shows their continued musical evolution. "Nothingman" is sad and gorgeous and nothing that you'd have..."
Ten: Pearl Jam

"Is there a bad song on this whole album? This *is* grunge as it should be. "Even Flow", "Alive", "Why Go", "Black" (my all time #1 fav), "Jeremy"... Seriously solid album with great guitar riffs, and killer lyrics. Everyone should own this album. One of the best things to come out of the 90s."
Core: Stone Temple Pilots

"It's a dark with dirty guitars and themes of death and sex rampant throughout, yet it's somehow catchy at the same time. "Dead & Bloated" is aggressive and hard, but "Creep" is almost pretty. "Plush" has crunching guitars and vocals that are reminiscent of grunge and "Sex Type Thing" is fast and attacking. It's a dynamic album that survives the 90's pretty intact I'd say."
Third Eye Blind

"Third Eye Blind's self-titled album is some of the best music that was released in the 90s. Songs like "How's It Going To Be" and "Jumper" are still my fave songs today."
August and Everything After: Counting Crows

"Say what you will about them now, but the Counting Crows first record was really good. Produced by T Bone Burnett, this was a great debut album. Everyone knows "Mr. Jones & Me", but almost every song on the album is solid."

Get Ready ~ New Order
1 recommendation
"The collision between British musicians and Black American music has produced an ever growing treasury of limb-pulsing, butt-shaking, hart-swelling music, which--thankfully is often the result of soul-brothers and sisters made from the most unlikely sort--case in point, New Order. In "Get Ready" New Order ditch the temptation of dance-floor stagnation for what seems to be a reach for that mythical..."
Californication: Red Hot Chili Peppers

"When I first moved to Los Angeles it was late in January, just at the beginning of a long, damp rainiy season. For some reason I had this CD in my car and I proceeded to listen to it for two long months of rain, gloomy skies, blowing palm trees, and trying to adjust to a new city. Californication is an amazing album which to me perfectly captures the essence of California and Los Angeles in all i..."
Nirvana - MTV Unplugged in New York

"Nirvana's Unplugged session was recorded six days after the only time I ever saw them live. I like to save this record for when it's really cold out and I can just hide under my covers and drink tea and, you know, brood."
Automatic for the People by R.E.M.

"The best band in the world’s best album, Automatic is soul food for my ears. When I’m down, happy, in the mood for Stipe and strings, or whatever the case, I reach for any one of multiple copies I own. I once wrote an entire film script while only listening to Document, another masterpiece."
