"I saw these for the first time while having lunch at Longrain, an eat-and-be-seen bar and restaurant in Sydney, and I remember thinking how great the design of the wall was with these curved interlocking bamboo panels. It turns out that the tiles are made by Wovin which is an Australian company, but have started to appear in a number of shops and restaurants all over the world."
Barbican: The Surreal House

"As if I didn't already have enough reasons to want a plane ticket to London, the Barbican Art Gallery has just given me another: the exhibition entitled "The Surreal House." Olde Good Things - Elevator grill with dial - Decorative metal - Architectural

"Very cool Building Salvage Store online. Some items are a bit expensive, but I believe they are one of a kind or relatively rare. Some are from specific locations and buildings that may be of note. Here we have a 'Dial' from an old elevator... yep, back when they used to 'pilot' them manually!"

t-square acrylic earrings (black) by plastique on Etsy
1 recommendation
"I have a very love-hate relationship with my T-square, thus I feel a mixture of love and loathing for these adorable earrings. These would make a perfect gift for the interior designer or architect in your life... or anyone who has slaved over a drafting board with a T-square for any amount of time."

Googie: Fifties Coffee Shop Architecture: Alan Hess: Books

"The euphoria about the future that followed World War II permeated the outlooks of architects, who, influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright and with ready access to remarkable new construction material and building techniques spawned by the war technologies, faced the intriguing prospect of redesigning the post war world. Initially the futuristic designs were outrageous, and detractors labeled these stru..."

"okay. this is one i don't have but i want it, people, i want it. why? the interior spreads are lovely and minimalist. plus, i have to admit that is has a certain snooty designer appeal. it says it has notes pages and forward calendars, etc. but they don't show images. i haven't actually purchased this one yet so i can't share any with you. sorry. you'll have to go with your gut on this one."
Spaced Out: Crash Pads, Hippie Communes, Infinity Machines and Other Radical Environments of the Psychedelic Sixties
1 recommendation
"While were on the subject, the utopian sixties inspired revolutionary and alternative ways to live, love, and entertain—and equally radical spaces to do it in. Stimulated by the psychedelic drug culture, rebel designers and architects distorted space to create womblike coves and isolation chambers, forging a spatial vocabulary that still reverberates today. At the same time, the tune-in-turn-on-dr..."
