The Trial by Franz Kafka

"Ok I'll admit it - I wasn't too pumped on The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton...it just never got good for me. So, still planning on reading the classics, I'm going to try my hand at The Trial by Franz Kafka. The edition I have is paired with The Metamorphosis by him, as well, so I'll probably be reading both. This is supposed to be dark and disturbing, which will be an awesome switch from the Vic..."
Toy Monster: The Big, Bad World of Mattel: Jerry Oppenheimer
1 recommendation
"An enticing novel that delves into the world surrounding Barbie and her creators. The lives of the people in the Mattel corporation were all but Barbie-esque. Seedy stories of the swinging 70s, affairs, and shady lifestyles fill this book with juicy gossip just in time for this Blonde vixen's 50th Birthday!"
The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton

"On my way to read ALL the classics - this one sounds pretty good. Edith Wharton based the majority of her books on the fashionable New York society she was raised in (sounds good to me). The House of Mirth is about a wealthy woman who is addicted to the pleasures of the moneyed world but she soon figures out that she is completely out of her element and "unfit for survival." Sounds sexy!"
Candide by Voltaire

"I'm on a quest to read all the classics, starting with Candide. I suggest you research this one a little bit before you start it - just so you will understand the satirical undertones and everything Voltaire is trying to get across, otherwise it will seem pointless to you. The plot is extremely fast paced, but super funny and I'm finding myself laughing out loud at a few parts. It's a short book a..."

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon

"Mark Haddon creates a very touching story in 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time'. Narrated by an autistic savant, it reveals the trials and tribulations that a teenage boy endures throughout a critical period in his life."
Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons: A Novel

"Interesting, easy read, great story-telling, occasionally thought-provoking. It's similar to 'Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood' - definitely worth reading if you're feeling the need to re-awaken your sense of female bonding!"
The Contortionist's Handbook

"An interesting novel about a brilliant, damaged character faced with challenges of mental illness and substance abuse. Similar to 'A Million Little Pieces' by James Frye. Interesting, quick read!"
