Nishiki Premium Sushi Rice
1 recommendation
"snobs might tell you that there are noticeable differences among brands. they're right, but until you've eaten that much rice where YOU can tell, just get anything that is asian, short-grain, white rice. "premium" and "fancy" are just marketing terms. (also, you can use brown rice for sushi, but it's harder to handle because the grains don't stick together as well, making it more difficult t..."
Brennans White Bread
1 recommendation
"My lifelong obsession with toast began right here, with this bread. It's been my absolute favorite since I was a little girl... the perfect bread for toasted sandwiches at 2 in the morning on a rainy night."
Chivers Blackcurrant Jelly
1 recommendation
"Think gelatin, not jam. And ignore how awful this sounds and just try it- mix a packet of this with chopped beets and let it set. I know what you're thinking but I swear to God it's delicious...."
Heinz Salad Cream
1 recommendation
"If I had to choose a "last sandwich EVER," chances are it would have Heinz salad cream on it. No longer do I have to cart it back from Ireland- it's delivered straight to my door these days. Irish bacon + tomatoes + Brennan's toasted white bread + salad cream = foodgasms"
Bird's Custard Powder
1 recommendation
"Add milk and sugar and voila! The creamiest, yummiest custard ever. I use it for Irish trifle- layer fresh berries, jams, custard and pound cake sprinkled with sherry (of COURSE there's booze in it. Did you expect otherwise from me?). Bird's is the only "real" custard on earth, in my opinion.... ; )"
Robertson's Lemon Curd
1 recommendation
"If you're not used to lemon curd on toast, this may be a bit on the sweet side for you. But for those of you from England and Ireland... well, you know how delicious it is. It can be used as filling for tarts and pies as well, fyi."
McVities Milk Chocolate Digestives
1 recommendation
"My absolute favorite of the McVities' cookies- the milk chocolate digestives. Horrible name, that. "Digestives." But the taste? Oh my god, delicious. Here's the trick- dip them in a hot cup of tea juuuust long enough (maybe 2-3 seconds) to get the chocolate a bit melted but NOT long enough to make the cookie soggy or it will fall into the cup. Yep. It's an art form."
Global Decor 8-Piece Wooden Chopstick Set
1 recommendation
"I love these chopsticks! They are totally traditional yet still have a modern edge. The characters printed on them are really nifty - too bad I have no idea what is actually says (probably "you are an ugly dog")."
Polish Dill Pickles
1 recommendation
"I love polish dill pickles. Not any other kind. These pickles are great with boiled eggs and mayo, but my favorite combo is probably herb roasted chicken and polish dill pickles. Why are these pickles so special? They're made in Poland. Duh."
Simply Thai Cooking
4 recommendations
"This cookbook explains Thai cooking in easy to follow language. It's thick enough to contain all of the curries, soups, salads and noodle dishes you've heard of (and some that you probably haven't), but won't strain you're elbow when you're holding it in the kitchen."
Lithuanian Dark Organic Rye Bread "Kaimiška"
1 recommendation
"One thing that I never got used to here in U.S. is bread. It just tastes like it's made from paper. This is what I call real bread. It might be a little more expensive, but it well worth it."
Tostobueno - The Ultimate Tostonera!
2 recommendations
"I love the Tostobueno, because it's our product . . . our heart and soul. The people behind Tostobueno, The Ultimate Tostonera: ChefDonClark (designer of the Tostobueno and deisgn patent owner), Ainsley, Evelyn, Janet and Veronica all believe that a bunch of people can get together and make a difference through food. The Tostobueno is simply a plantain masher, but what a plantain masher. Made in e..."
The Language of Baklava
1 recommendation
"The author, Daina Abu-Jabar, said to Reichl: "There's something safe and wonderful about being raised by a strict father, but it has its drawbacks." That's pretty much what this memoir about growing up partly in Jordan and always with food is about."
