Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band

"The Bright Eyes front man tries his luck on his own. With this self titled album, he attempts to segue his cult status among emo/indie kids from the Bright Eyes to, well, just him. It's really not that big of a surprise, considering he's notoriously known for is arrogance and basic lack or relevance for anything or any one. I'll put it like this, it sure isn't "I'm wide awake, it's morning." Howe..."
'In The Ever' Mason Jennings
1 recommendation
"I love Mason Jennings. When I first started listening to him, he had catchy melodic choruses that were simple and fun. His style has changed over the last few cd's to become simpler and even more stripped down. I wasn't necessarily excited by this, but I gave the cd a closer listen and realized that I can appreciate his lyrics much more, and his voice is still amazing."
Things in Herds

"If you're into indie/folk rock music, or are simply into relaxing music, this band will raise your spirits. To me, they sound sort of like a blend of death cab for cutie and the national. Perfect for a lazy summer day."

"Air is such an amazing band, that I have loved since I met my boyfriend, because he introduces me to them, like he introduced me to lots of good music. That's one of the things that brought of together. Aww!"
Out of Season ~ Rustin Man, Beth Gibbons
1 recommendation
"Debut solo album from Portishead vocalist, in collaboration with Talk Talk man Paul Webb (alias Rustin Man). Eschewing Portishead's lush orchestrations for a sparse, bare production, this is a collection of quiet, acoustic folk and jazz balladry which showcases Gibbons's versatile voice. Features additional production and guitar work by her Portishead colleague Adrian Utley. Lee Harris & Simon Edw..."

'Twas on a Night Like This
1 recommendation
"One of my favorite Christmas albums ever - and I'm NOT even a big fan of American roots music. I play it every year around Christmas Kathy Barton and Dave Para are two folk musicians from Booneville, Missouri. On this album, they are joined by the Patons to perform a wide range of music from the rollicking "Kentucky Wassail" to the somber "In the Bleak Midwinter.""
Gåte - Iselilja

"Yet another Norwegian pick. They're not your typical folk group... When you need the energy and the inspiration to scream, run, or push yourself to that limit, this album will motivate you."
No Direction Home DVD, by Bob Dylan, Martin Scorsese

"Brings out social frustrations/perfect when designing."
Bob Dylan - Modern Times [Audio CD]
1 recommendation
"When Bob Dylan dropped Time Out of Mind in 1997, it was a rollicking rockabilly and blues record, full of sad songs about mortality, disappointment, and dissolution. 2001 brought Love and Theft, which was also steeped in stomping blues and other folk forms. It was funny, celebratory in places and biting in others. Dylan has been busy since then: he did a Victoria's Secret commercial, toured almost..."
Bob Dylan - Bob Dylan [Audio CD]
1 recommendation
"Bob Dylan's first album is a lot like the debut albums by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones -- a sterling effort, outclassing most, if not all, of what came before it in the genre, but similarly eclipsed by the artist's own subsequent efforts. The difference was that not very many people heard Bob Dylan on its original release (originals on the early-'60s Columbia label are choice collectibles) b..."
ROY DAVIS: Grey Town
1 recommendation
"Davis writes simple tales of broken-hearts and big dreams. While he sound is closer to Ryan Adams or Clem Snide's Eef Barzelay, Davis cites The Rolling Stones, Adams, The Drive-By Truckers and Nirvana as major influences. You can hear that in his emotional honesty of his songs. The album stays on a low musical country/folk simmer, forcing you to feel the words and his emotional turmoil. Just 21, D..."
The Real Thing

"Taj Mahal is a unique talent known for expanding the boundaries of Blues and Folk Music. There is nothing like Taj Mahal's third album. It was recorded live in 1971 at the Fillmore East with a new larger band that included a distinguished four piece lower brass section. Although a bit sloppy at times, this soulful music swings, grooves and drives like a locomotive."
John Denver's Rocky Mountain Christmas
1 recommendation
"Who else would title their Christmas album "Rocky Mountain Christmas"? There are many Christmas albums that I deeply cherish, but none as much as this one. And yes, this one is "next", for i am single-handedly bringing back John Denver to a generation unknowingly yearning for simple yet elegant folk music. Listening to "Aspenglow", "Please, Daddy (Don't Get Drunk This Christmas)" or my all ti..."
