SOUND OF COLOR
1 recommendation
"A website which aims to teach us about the use and meaning of color through the medium of sound. Appropriate and entertaining for all ages. Could be a cool meditation tool, too."
VINYL KILLER - RECORD PLAYING VW VAN
1 recommendation
"i remember seeing these on 'scratch', i think. anyway, just turn this little bad boy on and place it on a record. it putts around in a circle, playing the record with a bottom-mounted needle and a speaker in the roof."
Music Rising T-Shirt
1 recommendation
"Everyone knows about the disaster the Hurcane Katrina brought with it to the Gulf Coast. It's a year later and people are still trying to recover. You can help out and look cool while you're at it by buying this t-shirt. The proceeds go directly to Music Rising, which is helping to replace instruments of professional musicians who have lost gear to the storm, and help bring music back to the sc..."
Squeezebox

"I bought their first generation device years ago and I love it. This is the best way to listen to your mp3 music collection via your stereo. No need to fumble with the computer, there is a remote control and the bright display can be read across the room. For geeks, the slimserver software can be installed on any server running OS X, Windows or any flavor of Linux, and the entire thing is contr..."
Jefferson Airplane: White Rabbit
1 recommendation
"This is a great classic rock song. And might I add a complete and utter stoner song to say the least. And it's about chess....yeah. Don't try to make sense of it unless you've eaten a handful of mushrooms or have acid tabs stuck on your sweaty forehead. (Don't do that)"
Amazon: Raggedy Man with Sissy Spacek, Eric Roberts and Sam Shepard
1 recommendation
"Being a divorced, single mother is a tough gig, but during World War II it was much like a curse. Sissy Spacek's character manages to hold the wolves and the gossipmongers at bay just enough to get by and get along, until both a lover and a murderer cross her path. Mournful at times, but ultimately triumphant."
Erin and Her Cello
1 recommendation
"If you ever had a crush on someone who rides the subway, ate pork buns in Chinatown or waited on line in Duane Reade, then you must listen to Erin and Her Cello's debut CD! It is full of fun little ditties that you will hum along to on your iPod while on the beach, the park or the subway. Erin is a triple threat: a lovely voice, a cello virtuoso and a talented songwriter."
No Wave Book
1 recommendation
"for the music nerd who's tired of explaining the difference between new wave, no wave and no age. and if you don't know, have i got a book for you!"
Six Degrees Records Online Shop: Asian Travels
1 recommendation
"I have never had the opportunity to travel anywhere in Asia, but I love listening to a variety of music from that region of the world. Six Degrees Records provides me with the opportunity to be an armchair traveler . . . until I can make my way to China, Japan and beyond."
iTunes Store: The Psychedelic Furs - Greatest Hits
1 recommendation
"I saw "The Psychedelic Furs" live in concert at Radio City Music Hall when I was still in college. I had nosebleed seats but I was thrilled just the same. Whenever I hear "Pretty in Pink", I look back, enjoy and feel incredible gratitude for all that I have learned since then."
iTunes Store: Various Artists - Om Lounge, Vol. 10
1 recommendation
""Om Lounge" is actually an entire series of dance/trance compilations. Each one has a slightly different flavor, depending upon the contributing artists. The common thread is a smooth electronic groove and consistently good music. I would love to own the whole of the Om."
iTunes Store: Sinead O'Connor - I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got
1 recommendation
"I cry every time I listen to Sinead O'Connor sing "Nothing Compares 2 U." It gripped me by the throat when I first heard it, and it has never ceased to have that effect on me. Her voice is just exquisite, and she appears to throw her whole self into the singing of each one of her songs. The result is pure magic."
iTunes Store: Joni Mitchell - Ladies of the Canyon
1 recommendation
"Years before Amy Grant released her version of "Big Yellow Taxi", Joni Mitchell was singing her song in front of a massive barefoot crowds. With just her deep, entrancing croon and guitar to guide her, she mesmerized thousands. More than 40 years later, she is still singing and creating, moving and grooving. Amazing."
iTunes Store: Liz Phair - Liz Phair
1 recommendation
"A rock star who isn't afraid to sound pretty and a pretty girl who isn't afraid to rock . . . gotta love that about Liz Phair. The fact that she also has a gorgeous sound all her own is pretty lovable too."
iTunes Store: Pat Benatar - Greatest Hits
1 recommendation
"This recommendation is dedicated to my son, who is desperately trying to play "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" perfectly on "Guitar Hero III." It's hard for him to understand what a thrill it is for me to watch him enjoying the same music that I listened to not so very long ago. But Pat rocks. Always has. Always will."
iTunes Store: Journey: Greatest Hits
1 recommendation
"I dated someone not too long ago who absolutely loathed "Journey" . . . and I never mustered up the courage to tell him that I actually owned one or two of their albums. So, here's my big chance. I like "Journey" and I love every single song on this album. Wow. That's a relief. I may be alone while doing it, but I can finally listen to these songs with a clear conscience."
iTunes Store: Prince - Ultimate (The Very Best of Prince)
1 recommendation
"When the song "1999" was first released, I imagined that we would all be flying around like "The Jetsons" by then. Well, we aren't. And now "The Jonas Brothers" are singing about the "Year 3000." So, time flies. In the meantime, I am drooling at the thought of purchasing this entire collection of Prince hits. What would be even sweeter is if I managed to see him live in concert before the end..."
iTunes Store: Lionel Richie: The Definitive Collection
1 recommendation
"It seemed as if Lionel Richie was in hiding for a long time, so I am thrilled to see that he is still around, singing his songs and making his music. He is one of the great masters of the love song. Love to love you, Lionel."
iTunes Store: Nelly Furtado - Whoa, Nelly!
1 recommendation
"I know she has released several albums since "Whoa, Nelly !" but this album is where my heart is. Her gorgeous vocals almost literally give flight to the song "I'm Like a Bird". Changing up the pace and tone on nearly every song, she shows us a different side of herself and the full range of her vocal talent on this debut album. Love it."
iTunes Store: Fergie - The Dutchess (Bonus Tracks Version)
1 recommendation
"Fergie may not be the Duchess of Windsor, but she definitely master of her own domain. I am thrilled that she stepped aside from "Black Eyed Peas" to show what she can do on her own. Much more than by her pumping and grinding, she defines herself by her amazing vocal range and willingness to try something new and different. Bravo !"
iTunes Store: Dixie Chicks - Home
1 recommendation
"They invited me in with their rendition of "Landslide" and then I was tempted to stay awhile. So glad I did, because these chicks are the real deal with talent oozing from every one of their gorgeous pores. And brains to boot."
iTunes Store: John Mellencamp - Words & Music - John Mellencamp's Greatest Hits
1 recommendation
"I remember reading several years ago that John Mellencamp's original record album required him to change his professional name to "John Cougar". Apparently, "Mellencamp" just didn't sound quite right to them. So, I am almost as pleased to see him resuming the use of his real name (without the "Cougar") as I am to listen to these many great ballads of his."
iTunes Store: Aqualung - Strange & Beautiful
1 recommendation
"Not to be confused with the Jethro Tull album and song of the same name, "aqualung" is the singer Matt Hales. His is a slow, sensuous groove, punctuated by the song "Brighter Than Sunshine." I hope to hear more from this young "aqualung.""
iTunes Store: Jason Mraz - We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things (Bonus Track Version)
1 recommendation
"I would not mind bumping into him at a local coffee house, but I will settle for this album until then. Cool tunes, sweet voice and I bet he's a great dance partner too: Jason Mraz."
iTunes Store: Dexy's Midnight Runners - Too-Rye-Ay (Expanded Edition)
1 recommendation
"Well, of course, I do enjoy the whole album. But the primary reason I will always remember Dexy's Midnight Runners is the song "Come On Eileen". I cannot think of another song whose crescendo is as fun or dramatic as this. Going 100 mph in a sports car while listening to this on the radio will also make this a memorable listening experience. Not that I ever did that. Just saying."
Tony Bennett & k.d. lang - A Wonderful World
1 recommendation
"An unlikely duo, I agree, but they sound so good together. Her voice is deeper than his, which is an interesting twist. And they completely reinvent each of the classic songs that they sing with their own unique harmony. This is a priceless album."
