The Color Purple is one of most powerful books that you will read. There is also a film based on the novel which is equally as powerful, but the novel offers a little more detail and graphics than a movie made at that time could show.

Those not familiar with The Color Purple, it follows a young B...morelack woman named Cecile who was forced into an abusive marriage at age 14 and separated from her family. For a long time, she served as more of a slave than a wife to her husband, even being forced to call him Mister. An encounter and bond with her husband's mistress though helps give Cecile the courage and strength she needs to stand up and fight back. Cecile works to become a poster child for power, freedom, and overcoming male domination and abuse.
