"There's a truck load of talent on this one, but WPOD ("White Punks On Dope") is still the ruler on this Rock masterpiece, or was it "Modo Bondage"--no "Boy Crazy"! No its "What Do You Want from Life?" Ah... "White Punks On Dope""
Tommy: A Rock Opera

"I remember the first time I saw this movie. I musta been 12 or 13... I'll never forget the range of emotions I felt when watching this... Sadness, happiness, compassion, empathy, confusion, disgust... With an outstanding soundtrack by the WHO (remember this is a musical) and stars like Ann Margret, Tina Turner (the acid queen), and Elton John (in an unforgettable role as the Pinball Wizard!)....."

"The original rock opera. This album showcases Pete Townshend's ability as not only an amazing songwriter, but a conceptual visionary. It is worth noting that there are some dark themes running through the music and that some people find it disturbing. Personally, I don't think it's their best album ever, but it's very strong with some great songs and it still stands the test of time well. "Am..."

"My personal favorite of the rock-operas. It swings from agressive guitars in songs like "The Real Me" and "The Punk and the Godfather" to calm beauty in "Love, Reign O'er Me" and "I'm One" through catchy, crazy, driven songs like "5:15", full of pulsing bass lines and R&B rhythms. Half of these songs are all-time favorite Who songs for me. Definitely a desert island disc."

"Green Day grows up. Great album with hooky, catchy songs filled with smart lyrics. Definitely in the rock-opera vein, with some songs clocking in at over 9mn, but none of them ever feel bloated. Energetic and edgy rock'n'roll."

"I'm addicted to, and in awe of, awesome stage design. You're making an entire world in a space not much larger than the average loft apartment. That takes real creativity and innovation. And it doesn't need to be iPod-friendly."
Lulu by Lou Reed & Metallica

"Lou Reed and Metallica's "Lulu" falls from the same tree as Heavy Metal, Prog-Rock, and Opera. Although "Lulu" fits in the tight sonic space Scott Walker cut into pop music, I like to think of "Lulu" as Opera, or a contemporary refection of that genre. On the other hand, "Lulu" could also be looked at as an audio book, which in someways is more exciting. Still I would love to see how "Lulu" might ..."
John Bock: Maltreated Frigate
1 recommendation
"This sophisticated artist’s book, with custom-cut cover and partially exposed binding, documents John Bock’s 2006 action, "Maltreated Frigate"--the height as well as the culmination of this rising German artist’s performative work. Here, Bock’s vision comes to life in a multitude of color illustrations composed and collaged by the artist. The libretto, printed in its entirety, explodes in linguist..."
