Why do I love these? Because I'm a fan of kitsch and anything that reminds me of being back in the 80's instead of things that tap me on the shoulder and sneer, "Hey. You're 36. Time to be a grown-up." The price is a bit stiff for a set of just two but for me, they're like mental Botox so I can justify it.

Beth Robinson of strangedolls.net custom makes a number of strange dolls but I believe the series featuring the good doc here is my favorite. Besides the freaky balance between suggestion of and direct attention to detail, I also like that her dolls look like they've just stepped out of a penny dreadful illustration and are now considering eating your face. This particular Doctor Scops, now creeping out the hot little hands of a lucky gent in San Diego, is my especial favorite due to the fact that he reminds me of the figure of Death-in-the-guise-of-a-doctor in one of my favorite films, Terry Gilliam's Baron Munchausen. Or some kind of Edward Gorey dreamt-of Victorian serial killer hiding out in an Old West sideshow. The extraordinarily, unbelievably talented and not a little frightening Ms. Robinson also has dolls available for immediate sale. For the Wednesday Addams in your life, from 8 to 80! Product specs: 24 inches tall . Wood . 2 Part Resin . Resin Skull

My daughter loves Dora and I like her too. Dora encourages kids to bravely explore the world around them. I like Dora's very can-do attitude and think, as big, commercially-branded characters go, she is among the best. I also prefer Dora as a toy or a book, instead of a passive/vegetative TV show. So this Dora doll is a good choice.

Amazing artists create crazy designs on the classic platform, sign it, and number the customs. Circus Punks are extremely limited and become a fun addiction!

    Recommendation:

    • Alyson

No, I do not play with dolls. But I am stunned, STUNNED, I tell you, to see a doll who spells her name with a "Y" like I do. I will forgive her the extra "L" because she's not only an Allyson doll, she's an AMAZING Allyson doll. I think I identify more with the "Ethnic" Amazing Allyson than with her pal, "Blonde" Amazing Allyson so I chose her picture. Also, you get to see Allyson's accessories in this picture. I love that she has a cell phone. If she were an accurate representation of the real Alyson-with-a-Y I know (me) she'd also have a Blackberry in one hand and a laptop chained to her wrist that beeps incessantly from incoming IM messages. Also, I read the Economist rather than fashion magazine that accompanies Amazing Allyson... not because I'm all snotty about my reading, but because I get my fashion from ThisNext and I like a side of snark with my world news. I will admit that I'm kind of bummed that she comes from WalMart and not, say, Neiman's Christmas Catalog, but, hey, beggers-with-a-Y can't be choosers.
