I got my little sister this for her big entry into 6th grade, and I'm pretty sure that makes her one of the coolest 6th graders ever. It is rather large (about the size of a large fist), and the packaging has lots of cool facts about endangered species. The eraser is actually made from PVC-free TPR, and is more sustainable while also supporting preservation of endangered animal habitats. Along with the blue polar bear, they also have green gorilla and a red rhino erasers!

Life gives us choices...we can go with ordinary, like in an ordinary eraser, OR, we can choose extra-ordinary. The Ergo-Pencil Eraser (in my book) is Extra-Ordinary. It has been designed to fit in the soft curve of your thumb, is thin on one end and thick on the other, and comes in bright colors. So cool!

Victoria Tane creates recycled art that is not at all, well, trashy. *grin* Her pieces are elegant and interesting. It is hard to recognize some of the materials she uses until you read the descriptions. Old telephone wire? Really? Go to her site and check out the "Mardi Bra" she made, with a portion of the proceeds going to breast cancer research. She also does custom work, incorporating your old, sentimentally important pieces into something new and wonderful. I am partial to her drift wood pieces, since they remind me of my childhood island home. From her web site: "An avid recycler, she is inspired to find new uses for old things not generally associated with jewelry. Her work features old chandelier crystals, pencil eraser caps, peach pits, driftwood, telephone wire, old buttons, machine parts, and even, rabies tags. She seamlessly integrates these objects into her jewelry to create elegant, affordable and wearable art."

I can't draw for the life of me, but even I've heard of Prismacolor - legendary manufacture of all things good in art supplies. I think. Pencils aren't just for kids! They're natural, sustainable, and best of all - erasable! Plus I love to hold them and pass them under my nose like a fine, Cuban cigar - Yeah, I'm weird. I love using my blue (model #20044) pencil. It erases to a perfect clean and makes me stand out a bit amongst a sea of drab graphite. Get some in a fun color!

If your writing instrument is a tool to let people know who you are, get a fountain pen. Stick with a major brand so people can easily recognize that you are someone to be taken seriously. If instead your writing instrument is a tool to create with, get a good quality pencil. One that feels right in your hand and as it moves across the page. This Palomino is a good place to start.

The perfect pencil box. Deep enough to hold a barrel sharpener, battery powered eraser, stumps, brushes, extra leads and all your other drawing supplies. And there's a neat little cargo net in the top that holds your pencils so their tips won't break. These are hard to find! I got mine at our local OfficeMax. I can't find them listed in their online store, though. If you see them anywhere, grab two and give the other away as a gift. :)

When you're a student, you have to write. A lot. I've also found that for certain courses, you need to re-write, on the fly, during lecture. A lot. That's where a pencil with an eraser becomes handy. This is the first mechanical pencil that just works. My handwriting is beyond the pale, and I exert too much pressure when I scribble. But the Graphgear has multiple points where it hold the lead, making it much harder to break. A very good eraser is hidden under the cap. Nice grip too, with a solid, well balanced weight. If you need to write with pencils I would highly recommend this one.
