This is a cool end table with some nice angles to it. It's very lightweight at only 12 lbs. I could use one of these near my home entryway to toss my mail and keys on.

I wish I had a place to put this and $4,500 burning a hole in my pocket. While this wouldn't really be practical as a desk replacement -- water isn't exactly friendly to paper or electricity -- it would act as a nice sonic transition piece in an entryway.

Irish woodworker John Doolin reveals a religious devotion to quality construction with the single-form Imbue coffee table (24" x 48"). Contrasting oak and walnut embellish the various components and master joinery, and coincidentally effect a cruciform shape.

A longitudinal section of claro walnut mounted atop a pair of cast bronze “wishbones”? is a table for the ages. Claro walnut typically refers to trunk wood from the West Coast’s centuries-old trees. Dense and richly variegated, slow-growing claro is often used for gunstocks and musical instruments, its marbleized grains making a big statement in a small area. This 14.5-foot-long table may also be ordered with a trestle base, often one made from the same tree.

Besides its bracing Venetian red lacquer, this Newell Design table has one other strong decorative element: a grid of mother-of-pearl dots on the recessed top. Such pearlescent details recur in the studio’s new collection.

This low, stout, marble-topped table, good to gang with others, fine to go it alone, stands on an open-side box of unstained maple and walnut. It is the brainchild of Robert Bristow, perhaps not coincidentally a former assistant to architect Paul Rudolph, the originator of Neo-Brutalism. Topped with a crisp block of white or black Danby marble.

To add history and caprice to an interior in one fell swoop, consider the interior design team of Matthew White and Frank Webb’s console table, from the partners’ first furniture collection. Selected engravings from the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries are hyper-enlarged, then silk-screened onto laser-cut wood. This caryatid-supported side table was born of eighteenth-century illustrations of Pompeiian furnishings.

Furniture maker Eric Manigian buys wood from small millers who receive fallen and discarded trees. Each hand-joined, oil-rubbed piece from his Brooklyn studio is an improvisation that celebrates the unique markings and so-called imperfections of the timbers. The variegated Bandwidth table has a single flitch-cut edge.

James Murphy of Staten Island likes streamlined forms from Asian art and marine and aviation design. He’s what you might call an organic modernist: The ingenious joinery in this walnut side table makes an asset of the wood’s decay.

A lot of people don't know that stainless steel tables and countertops are a kitchen tool not a decoration. For example, placing a hot pan on the surface will instantly lower the pan's temperature. Very handy when the oil is smoking or the water is about to boil over.
