We got this as a wedding gift and didn't use it for a long time, but lately we've been using it a lot. You can make great tasting, affordable meals without much effort, and you don't have to pay nearly as much attention as you do when cooking in an oven. We've made pot roast, #BBQ pork, caribbean style pork (using a great packaged sauce from @Williams-Sonoma) and chicken tikka masala. This crock pot has high, low and warm temperature settings, and it automatically goes to warm once the timer goes off. I really like the simplicity, and I'm not sure I'd want a more expensive version with more features - since this seems to have everything I need.

This little known item is the BEST gadget I have ever found. If you're familiar with those ever-gifted crock-pots, this is the energy efficient, portable version. This is basically a very, very large version of the popular Thermos stainless steel coffee mugs--but big enough to cook a full meal in. What you do is you take what you're cooking (something like soup, hot cider, or something with lots of liquids) and boil those on the stove. Then, you place the entire pot inside the thermal container, and it cooks -- from its own heat -- for hours. You can literally make something the morning before you go to work, and when you get home it's almost BOILING hot and ready to eat. It's hard to believe, but it works great. We use it to make chili, soups, hot cider, and full meals--basically anything you could cook with a crock pot would work here. For a few years, this was not available anywhere in the U.S.--but was the rage in Japan and Taiwan. I ordered a version of this many years ago special order I liked it so much. I'm surprised it's not more popular here, particularly with the green/ecological set, as it's a huge energy saver (imagine how much energy you save cooking a meal in this vs. letting a pot sit on the stove). It's also very portable, and you can take it anywhere (camping, to a potluck, football game, etc.). We use it frequently... Highly recommended.

I have used these liners for well over a year and think they are a Godsend in the kitchen. One of the worst jobs in the kitchen was scrubbing the crock pot with cooked on juices, etc. These are a real time saver. However, I must tell you of a problem I had recently with two of the liners in a four-liner box. When I attempted to open the liners for use, they split down the sides. Fortunately I still had two more liners to work with or I would have had to cook the "old fashioned way" and end up scrubbing the crock pot. I would suggest that you make these liners of a stronger material or do something else so they open easier. Perhaps a very fine dusting of flour or corn starch in the liner would help in the opening. Thank you.

The Tulsi-Hybrid Solar Oven might just be the ultimate solar cooker - at least, ultimate in terms of the number of functions it has. It is a Solar Oven, Crock Pot/Slow Cooker and a Portable Campsite Oven all in one. Plus, it has a backup electrical cord and can be plugged in for no-fail cooking, no matter what.

Invented and used decades ago in France, sous vide cooking was generally limited to cutting edge restaurants and large scale cook-and-hold productions (banquet halls, airlines, etc). With laboratory immersion circulators widely available, prices have been dropping but it still costs a small fortune for Joe Consumer to get into the game. With a PID controller such as this from Auber Instruments, you can poach at home by simply pairing it with a rice cooker or crock pot, some knowhow, and time.
