"Oh, the farmer and the cowman should be friends", that's the name of the piece above, a corten and mirror-polished stainless steel piece that will be part of a show at Timothy Taylor Gallery in London opening tomorrow. Created by architect and artist Ron Arad, the piece is a bookshelf shaped into a map of the USA, with a cubby for each individual state. The piece is about 18 feet wide.

"The Pocket And The Pendant" is Mark Jeffrey's first book. He is working on "Two Travelers", the sequel to Pocket. It has not ceased to amaze me that Mark wrote this while starting an Internet company that was sold to a top media company. Pocket is a great story with an attention to deatail of facts. Mark has weaved fact and fiction together to create an amazing world of his own imaginiation. The Pocket and the Pendant is a quick read which is good because it is a page turner. The only negative is that there are some typos and one chapter that stretches on. That said, it is worth the read. By the time you finish reading about Max Quick's adventures, you'll believe in Enki. Note that I had to ask my 6 year old how an item could have been created if it gets passed between two people in a circle of time. He didn't know and neither do i... but Mark got a good laugh from the question.

Combining everything you loved about your favorite childhood diary with adorably snarky illustrations that are more couture than cartoon, I completely adore Imani Powell’s tremendously ingenious fashion journal - The Young and the Stressless. This journal meets calendar makes the perfect holiday stocking stuffer for that stylish friend who already owns half of Barney’s (provided, of course that the aforementioned stocking is Wolford).

Noah Baumbach captures an American family better than anyone I've seen in years. The witty, flawless dialogue is captivating, as are the across-the-board stellar performances. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll be a Baumbach fan for life.

In The Fast and the Furious movie, Paul Walker drove a 1999 Ford SVT Lightning in the beginning. These modded F-150's are pretty powerful and plenty fast. I wish they had used it some more in the film. There are some Ford SVT Lightning for sale on eBay Motors. Not a lot because they're specially made. The red one shown in the pics is a 2004 model.

This cushion is inspired by the tapestry The Lady and the Unicorn. This famous series of wall hangings, commissioned by Jean Le Viste, member of a rich family from Lyon (France), is one of the tapestry masterpieces of the National Museum of Medieval Art, Paris. The six scenes stand out against a background of a multitude of cut flowers, like the bouquets that were strewn on the ground in front of processions or noble residences. Presented like a set of plant illustrations, these simple flowers that include the daisy, violet, carnation, periwinkle and mint evoke the domestic or courtly gardens of the end of the Middle Ages.

  • Yusef Lateef - The Centaur and the Phoenix [Audio CD] Yusef Lateef - The Centaur and the Phoenix [Audio CD] - Photo

From his first explosion of recordings in the mid-'50s, Yusef Lateef was a player who was always gently stretching the boundaries of his music to absorb techniques, new rhythms, and new influences from Africa, the Middle East and Asia. The Centaur and the Phoenix, however, takes the risks and the innovations that Lateef was known for, and expands them in a number of different directions all at once, leading to an album that bursts with new ideas and textures, while remaining accessible, and above all, beautiful. Lateef seems eager here to take the next step musically by breaking the mold of his previous albums. While he is a gifted composer, only a third of the songs featured here are his work: the rhythm-driven flute showcase "Apathy," the gentle, nocturnal tribute to his daughter "Iqbal" and the tone poem "The Philanthropist." The best of the rest come from Kenny Barron, who was only 17 at the time, and Charles Mills, a contemporary classical composer who drew the album's self-titled highlight from two of his symphonies, the first paying tribute to Crazy Horse and the other to Charlie Parker. Providing the structure and textures needed for these intricate compositions was Lateef's largest ensemble to date. Accustomed to working in a small-group format, he makes managing a band of nine sidemen seem easy. Several Lateef regulars are here, including Barry Harris, Richard Williams, and Ernie Farrow, but the inclusion of forward-thinking musicians like Joe Zawinul also help take this album to a higher level. The greatest miracle of this recording, however, is the balance that Lateef achieves with this large group -- they are always an asset, never a distraction, and even as they come on strong and powerful on songs like "Apathy," or Barron's arrangement of "Ev'ry Day (I Fall in Love)" he remains in charge, somehow making his delicate flute (or oboe, tenor sax or argol) rise above it all, spilling out brightness, grace and joy. ~ Stacia Proefrock, All Music Guide « less… more »
