It's no accident that this storage unit, designed in 1950, looks like a Bauhaus structure. Charles Eames, influenced by European modernist architects, took a functional approach, choosing not to soften the off-the-shelf-look of the unit's components. Steel uprights, cross supports, and perforated panels are solidly visible. Plywood, a simple, strong material and one of Eames's favorites, forms shelves, drawer fronts, and dimpled doors. Painted laminate sides and backs show their colors. And in keeping with its forthright appearance, this 4-high, 2-wide unit provides plenty of practical storage. Adjustable glides keep everything on the level. I love the versatility and convenience. It looks very functional.

Only do the espresso color, here, guys. This thing is a thing of beauty to me. Frankly, it could work its way right through every phase of your (or your kids') life... The drawers on the bottom anchor the shape of this in such a great proportion, allowing the symmetry of the baskets and boxes to gracefully climb up to the fun stuff up top... This functions for a child's room, a teen's room, and works its way right into being a beautiful display area in a living room or a library wall storage unit. If I weren't hooked on (or is it to?) my iPod, I would get an iRiver Clix. A friend showed it to me before it hit the market and I have to admit that this has a great design. If you are in the market for an Ipod Nano and have not already ripped every songs you want onto iTunes, you should take a look at the iRiver Clix. Sleak design. Easy navigation. Funtion surpassing the impressive form. The only thing it needs is more memory (like the Nano). Wait a year or 2 and Moore's Law will kick in to give us much larger storage on static memory devices.

Mine sits in front of my couch, and is the hands-on storage unit I use every day. It is "bill paying central" and "office supplies central" and "my online used book business central." It is four-sided and is on castors; I can spin it to whichever side I need. One side has three drawers and two shelves. Another side is designed to hold file folders. Another has shelves, and the last one has a bar you can hang things off of. Incredibly versatile, keeps the important stuff at hand, and can be rolled out of the way when you don't need it.
