These come from a sustainable wood source and are very durable and beautiful. I hate plastic cutting boards! If you wash these well, you´ll be fine as far as food safety goes. If you want to distinguish the sweet from savory side (so you don´t mix the flavor of strawberries with onions!), just take a Sharpie and make a little mark on each side to remind you which is which.

Structurally harder than Maple, Bamboo is a member of the grass family and doesn’t need the care that most wood boards require. The hard surface means fewer nicks and slices that harbor bacteria. For those who are environmentally minded, the abundance and renewable nature of bamboo makes it an earth-friendly choice.

Designer Furni's new Miller Bamboo Cutting Board is not only a cool affordable cutting board, but it is also very eco-friendly as well. The board itself is made from bamboo which is a very renewable resource and extremely fast growing (up to 3 feet per day!), is 16% harder than maple and absorbs very little moisture. Even better, the Miller Bamboo Cutting board has interchangeable inset stainless steel preparation bowls that sit flush with the board to prevent damage to your knife while you're slicing, dicing and chopping away and non-slip rubber feet so the board doesn't get away from you. I really love the little built-in bowls to keep everything separated.
