This little company distributes award-winnning films from all over the world. I like independent and foreign films, but I am not always sure which ones are worth seeing. Film Movement takes the guess work out of it by selecting top international award-winners and automatically sending one to me each month. I may not of heard of the movies they send, but they tend to be very good and interesting. I love mainstream stuff also, but these movies are a really nice change of pace.

In 1978, as New Yorkers won a case to prevent Grand Central from going the way of Pennsylvania Station, preservationists of another stripe opened a salvage shop in Soho. Urban Archaeology since has assembled a trove of 19th- and 20th-century architectural fittings, and the craftsmanship of those rarities is widely accessible via the company’s own lighting collection. It features re-creations and new designs inspired by fixtures rescued from long-ago hotels, schoolrooms, wharves, warehouses, sidewalks and train stations.

Urban Electric Co., with its suave logo, theatrical windows and polished manner of displaying wares in a spacious showroom, sends a clear message that history can be a helpmate rather than a handcuff. Historically inspired lamps, sconces and chandeliers by creative director Michael Amato and designers Amelia Handegan, Mark Maresca and Justin Walling suit a contemporary loft in Tribeca every bit as much as a Charleston single house. Every fixture, including copper lanterns by master craftsman John Gantt, is handmade locally.

If this quirky indoor / outdoor chair looks familiar, you may be one of millions who saw it on the show Boston Public. The Bubble Club chairs are playful, chunky and quite durable. They can add a little much needed levity to our lives. Its hard to take yourself too seriously when sitting in one of these, unless that is, you are Denny Crane. Designed by Philippe Starck, made in Italy out of UV resistant polypropylene by no other than Kartell.

I love this site and the wine. Staff gave me a Bold Reds Wine Club membership for Christmas last year and each month I got 2 new red wines I had never tasted before. It was such a great surprise each month and the wines were very good. Since the club ran out, I still buy and try various wines based on price or variety searches. They have good sales, excellent email follow ups, fast delivery and I've never gotten a bad wine. My 2 current favorites available on Wine.com are: The Australian Yalumba Barossa 95% shiraz/5% viognier and the organic California Merlot from Bonterra in the Napa Valley. Cheers!
