This is the 2002 USC vs Stanford championship matchup that unfortunately resulted in a USC 3-1 victory. I'm pretty fond of the Stanford squad as one of my best friends played on it. But truthfully, women's volleyball is an amazing spectator sport. These girls can jump out the roof. The video feaures Logan Tom and Ogonna Nnamani, two former Stanford players that are now on the US Olympic team.

I have to say that the packaging drew me in. What a great idea that this sunscreen is held in a slim little tube and the cap has a little lip balm dome built into it--very clever and convenient for slipping into one's purse. The sunscreen itself is a little on the heavy side but I found that for drier skin like mine this is just the thing I need. It also has a very prominent floral fragrance which again did not bother me but should be kept in mind. It’s the lip balm that is the gem of this product – it has a great, smooth, creamy texture and a nice, creamy vanilla scent, (but if you have darker/more pigmented lip take care not to layer too much as it will begin to look white and obvious. I used this product on my face, hands and neck on a recent trip to a very hot climate and was very pleased with the protection and the convenience. Lumene products are now available in the U.S. at most CVS stores.

This was recorded near the demise of the Faces (Ronnie Lane had already left the band at this point) in 1974. The sound quality is not the best but let me tell you it is worth it alone to see Keef play a few songs with these guys. Just the site of Keef and Ronnie circa 1974 makes me dizzy...those hot guitar riffs, all that spiky black hair......hold on while I sit down........OK, I think I've recovered now. Seriously, this is worth owning because there is not much on DVD out there of my fav. band of all time. I wish the live BBC stuff that I recorded from VH1Classic was available on DVD (although the live songs are on Five Guys Walk Into a Bar). The sound and video on that is awesome!

The latest effort by Boston architect Jermiah Eck, The Face of Home: A New Way to Look at the Outside of Your House, is a detailed look at practical ways to create a harmonious relationship between interior and exterior design. Though curb appeal is covered, it digs a lot deeper and hopes to help readers marry their house and its surroundings. "These days, we like to talk about something called 'curb appeal,' but we don't really know what that means," says the Boston architect. "The exterior, in general, is the most abused aspect of a house. It's ironic. We're spending more money and building bigger houses than we ever have - half of all American single-family houses now standing have been built since the 1970s. Last year, 1.8 million single-family houses were built, and very few of them were designed in any way. So many of them are so ugly!" "A face is a good metaphor for a facade. When we look at a house, it's like looking at a person. First we get an overall impression of shape, and, as we get closer, we notice the details. Most of all, we see the face. It tells us a lot about what's going on within." In the author's own words, "we'd be better off allowing the face of home to evolve on its own (we can always give it a label later). If your approach to the exterior of your house is thoughtful and considers the hallmarks I explain in this book, it won't matter whether people describe it as traditional, contemporary, or something else entirely. It won't matter because it will be just right."

After years and years of never straying from Cetaphil, I have been making up for lost time by trying various facial cleansers. I am pleased to report that I have been very impressed with many of the product lines I have been checking out lately. I especially love Ole Henriksen's on the go cleanser. It produces a great lather and feels wonderful on my skin. It also removes every trace of makeup...including difficult to remove mascara. I use white towels and have a real appreciation for any cleanser that helps me keep them white and bright!

Arnold & Son was a premier British watchmaker that specialized in navigation timepieces for longitude location back when the Brits were assembling an empire and networking the world via sailing ships. Now a Swiss watchbuilder co-habiting the same tent with Graham (another once-British specialist in chronographs) under Swiss parent The British Masters, Arnold & Sons continues the brand's traditional navigation focus. The Scout is an arresting watch, though not for being loud but for being beautiful and functionally interesting. Using an Arnold-modified commodity Swiss automatic movement, the Scout displays primary time, plus a second time zone. The second time zone display doubles as a solar compass and the circumference bezel permits easy and precise triangulation for fixing your unknown position at sea, referencing the known position of at two mapped features. The orange and black color scheme on the face is enhanced by the craft of the compass point markers. All the navigation graduations are precisely rendered. This watch has a polished stainless steel case with a coin-edged outer bezel. The casework is at Jaeger levels and the best I've seen for anything not made by Jaeger than has a street price under $5000. At 44.5mm diameter, the Scout isn't small, but it doesn't wear like a pie plate either. The case contours and its relative thinness for a multi-function watch, plus the beauty of its face, make it tasteful yet loaded with presence. The Scout has a sapphire display back, and the movement elements in view are nicely decorated. The watch is not made in high volume and the dealer network is small. You won't see it on every wrist. It's not a known icon; Arnold is a brand in-the-making in the modern watch world, and the Scout won't broadcast status other than that which derives from taste, imagination and an appreciation for the distinctive. The Scout comes on a synthetic rubber black or yellow strap with polished and signed buckle. A stainless steel bracelet is an option.

I first heard this band from Brookyn on The Hype Machine a month ago. The song was Wolf Like Me and I was immediately struck by the pounding drum beats and the distorted guitar that weaves throughout the song. I tagged the song in delicious and went back again and again. Then I started listening to their other songs and quickly found great tunes like Staring At The Sun and Ambulance. Then I went to YouTube and watched their live performances at Cochella. I want to see these guys live. Apparently I missed the opportunity at the end of June at Celebrate Brooklyn. It looks like they put on an intense show. Last week their new record, Return To Cookie Mountain, came out in the UK. I bought it at Amazon and have been listening a bunch. I think Wolf Like Me (the song that got me hooked) is the best song on the record, but there are a number of other good tracks on it as well like Province, Let The Devil In, and Blues From Down Here. It’s hard to describe TV On The Radio’s music. The best I can come up with is a harder darker Arcade Fire. They use a lot of cool instruments and I particularly like the great horn sounds throughout their music. But the great thing about mp3 blogging is that you can listen to the songs yourself and make up your own mind.

I refuse to entrust my beauty products to the airline. Period. This may sound a little extreme, but with Kinerase running upwards of $120 a tube and Kerastase clocking in at $50 a bottle, my beauty products add up to a small fortune. Not to mention the fact that if I'm forced to make do with hotel supplied shampoo and face cleanser I'm convinced it will take weeks to repair the damage. The solution to toting my beauty products around like a favorite pet? A super chic, and super well-organized, bag like the Diane von Furstenberg "Color on the Go" Beauty Bag. This bag holds over 100 products in style. I expect nothing less from the woman who brought us the wrap dress. The cushy padded shoulder strap will serve me well as I'm running to catch my plane and the designer details on this posh bag will surely make me worthy of a first class upgrade. Problem solved.

this is such a powerful movie and i can't get enough of it. it's more on the serious side which is unusual for musicals but its still such a strong and beautiful movie to watch. the story takes place in tsarist russia in 1905 and the story centers on tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and religious traditions while the world and civilization around the village change rapidly. even if you are not jewish (which i'm not), this movie will drag you back to the horrible trials and tribulations that the jewish community has had to endure. aside from the historical and moral insights, it also contains some of the most beautiful pieces of music you will ever find in a movie. i often find myself humming the tune the fiddler plays on the roof.
