My stepmother loves decorative sugar. Whether it be decorative sugar cubes for her latest tea or some special confectionery that catches her fancy. As such, every year I try to get her something special for Easter. This panoramic sugar egg is just the trick. It's sugary (she actually likes those crazy frosted sugar cookies), it's cute and it has a darling little chick hatching.

Love it! I was at first concerned it may be too abrasive on my sensitive dry skin, but it turned out to be fine. It was very exfoliating but the creamy moisturizer added to the sugar helped protect my skin. The scent is wonderful.

I bought the latest album by Anthony Gonzalez aka M83 because I had heard some good buzz and I already own M83's 2nd and 3rd albums. I was unexpectedly given a $10 iTunes gift certificate from ThisNext and checked it out. Recorded with Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros, Sugar Cubes, Cocteau Twins, Suede) and Ewan Pearson (Tracey Thorn, The Rapture, Ladytron) "Saturdays = Youth" retains the sonic "wall of sound" atmospherics of previous work... but the soundscapes seem more focussed... and more mature... which is kind of ironic considering "youth" is the subject matter. Vocals are haunting and ethereal... with some trademark spoken word from a young girl that is disturbing in a nice way. There is a real 80's vibe about the songwriting... with tracks like "Graveyard Girl" and "Couleurs" standing out as exceptional. This is the sound of now... something special... something immersive and inviting... something rich and yet delicate. A wonderful album... well worth checking out. Thanks for the gift... money well spent!

In case you haven't heard - or tried! - Absinthe is now legal in the United States. Not gray-area legal like medical marijuana, but 110% acceptable and legal. Even Wally's, LA's premier wine and liquor shop is selling it! Fashion Week Daily recommends the Ol’ Lucy Blue Eyes cocktail from BLT Steak: Ingredients 1 oz. Stoli blueberry 1/4 oz. Lucid Absinthe 1/4 oz. simple syrup splash of lemon juice drizzle of Massenez Framboise ginger beer fresh blueberries Muddle fresh blueberries and add syrup, juice and vodka. Add ice and shake and pour into highball glass. Drizzle Framboise and top with ginger beer. Garnish with one sugar cube.

I love anis-flavored liquors, so I am happy to see the resurgence of them, even if so many of the new ones are trading on the cultural cache of hipster stupidity. But hey, who wouldn't want to see the green fairy? Never mind that all of the new "absinthe" brands have such miniscule amounts of thujone that you would die of alcohol poisoning long before realizing the effects of it. This stuff tastes good, if you like licorice/fennel flavors. This one is actually rather mild and sweet, although if taken straight still has some kick. I am left wondering why Pernod itself hasn't jumped back into the fray? Maybe they don't want to lose market share for Pernod and Ricard...anyway, enjoy this and other pastis with some ice-cold water; it doesn't need the sugar cube, and after you've done the ritual once, you'll probably want to take this without it so it's not so sweet.
